Beginning of everything

It all started on a Sunday in 2007, when Ludmilla and her family went for lunch with sugarcane juice at a fair she loved so much in her city. So, while her mother Silvana was buying the pastry, Ludmilla took the opportunity to look at the stalls around, and that was when she came across a DVD by the singer Beyoncé:

“I saw her DVD playing on the street and I was hooked. I couldn’t even eat my pastry that day. I fell in love and wanted to be like Beyoncé. She sang and danced very well and at the same time, I had never seen anyone do that”, recalls the singer.

After much insistence, Ludmilla got her mother to buy the American diva’s DVD. At the time, the artist’s mother ran a bar in Duque de Caxias, while her stepfather, Renato de Araújo da Silva, was a pagodeiro. Thus, since the age of 8, Ludmilla accompanied the family in samba circles.

“I already knew that what I wanted in my life was music,” said the singer.

However, initially her mother worried about the instability of her career, as it was a male-dominated pace. But, it was through funk that the singer managed to associate dance with music.

“My mother said: ‘Let go of Beyoncé, daughter, she has a good life. She wanted the best for me, but artists think differently, we breathe art… And there I was trying to explain this to my mother, at 13 years old.”
