How to use Ginkgo biloba for labyrinthitis and dizziness

Illnesses

Ginkgo biloba is a great option for a natural remedy for labyrinthitis, dizziness and vertigo, because it has a vasodilating action that helps improve blood circulation inside the ear and brain, in addition to reducing blood viscosity and reducing damage caused by free radicals in the nerves, helping to alleviate symptoms.

Ginkgo Biloba extract can be purchased in pharmacies, drugstores or health food stores, in the form of capsules, tablets or tea, and can be used daily for a maximum period of 3 months or as per medical advice.

It is important to use Ginkgo biloba under medical advice or from a herbalist specializing in natural remedies, as it can cause side effects such as heart palpitations, bleeding or a decrease in blood pressure. See other indications for Ginkgo biloba.

How to drink

Ginkgo biloba must be taken orally and doses depend on the form used, which include:

1. Ginkgo biloba in capsules

Ginkgo biloba capsules contain 40 mg of the dry extract of this medicinal plant and the generally recommended dose for adults is 1 capsule of 40 mg, 3 times a day, taken orally with a glass of water.

The duration of treatment with Ginkgo biloba capsules should be guided by the doctor according to the severity of the symptoms.

2. Ginkgo biloba tablet

Ginkgo biloba tablets can be found in doses of 80 or 120 mg and the normally recommended doses for adults are 1 tablet of 80 mg every 8 hours or 1 tablet of 120 mg every 12 hours, taken together with a meal, as per medical advice.

3. Ginkgo biloba tea

Ginkgo biloba tea must be prepared using the dried leaves of this plant or the dried powder.

To make tea with dried leaves, add 1 tablespoon of dried Ginkgo biloba leaves to 1 cup of water and boil for 1 minute. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes, strain and drink 3 to 4 times a day.

To prepare tea with the dry powder, you should use 1 dessert spoon of dry Ginkgo biloba powder in 200 mL of water, unsweetened juice or milk, preferably skimmed, once a day.

Possible side effects

Ginkgo biloba is generally well tolerated and rarely presents side effects, the most common of which are nausea, headache, heart palpitations, drop in blood pressure or bleeding.

Who shouldn’t take

Ginkgo Biloba should not be used by children under 12 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or by people who have blood clotting problems, hemophilia or use anticoagulant medications such as acetylsalicylic acid, heparin or warfarin.

The use of Ginkgo biloba may increase the risk of bleeding and its use should be stopped 2 days before undergoing any type of surgery.
