When to clean?
If you use your makeup brush daily, it is recommended that it be washed every two weeks. However, it is worth mentioning that this is the case with brushes used to apply foundations, liquid concealers and lipsticks.
Those used for dry powders and eyeshadows should only be washed once a month.
How to clean makeup brushes with neutral soap or shampoo?
First, wet the brush bristles under running water. Then, apply a little soap or neutral shampoo (for babies) to the palm of your hand and gently rub the bristles.
Finally, rinse the brush and, if necessary, repeat the process.
To dry, place the brushes on a surface where the bristles are slightly downwards and remember to never store the object wet.
With makeup remover
If you want to clean your makeup brush using makeup remover, simply place the product on the bristles and let it act for a few minutes. Then, just wash with running water until all dirt is removed.
With a specific brush cleaner
For those who like specific items that are more practical, a great idea is to use a product designed to clean brushes and which does not wet the bristles. So, in this case, just apply the product to the brush, clean the bristles with a towel and wait a few minutes.

How to clean makeup brushes with vinegar
First, mix a cup of hot water and two dessert spoons of shampoo. Afterwards, add a tablespoon of vinegar to the mixture.
Finally, place the brushes in the solution and gently remove the excess with your fingers. When it is completely clean, set it aside to dry.
How to clean makeup brushes with hot glue
Firstly, to clean the makeup brush with hot glue, you need the help of a plastic lid, such as an ice cream container.
With the lid in hand and the hot glue heated, make zigzag or straight lines on the lid. Wait for the glue to dry and then apply the cleaning product of your choice and brush the surface until it is completely clean.
How to clean makeup brushes with a sieve
Firstly, wet a sieve and put a little neutral children’s shampoo or liquid soap in the bottom. Then, with damp bristles, gently rub the brush through the sieve.
Remember to keep the tap water running so that all product, dirt and bacteria can go away during the process.
Tips to better maintain your makeup brush
- Store your brushes in dry places: Bathrooms, for example, may not be a good option, as they are often damp;
- When cleaning your makeup brush, wet only the bristles: This prevents the cable from damaging;
- When drying, keep the brush in a vertical position: This prevents the droplets from running into the inside of the object;
