Gastronomic experience in Minas Gerais

If you are looking for a unique and special tourist and gastronomic experience, find the right place. A Casa do Bartô, in Santo Hilário, is one of those places where you express your concerns and surrender to the present moment – as we would like to see you every day.

Banhado del Lago de Furnas, in a village with just over 100 inhabitants, the gastronomic shelter is commanded by Chef João Bruno, managed by his colleague Robson and built daily by volunteer travelers who pass by and contribute to the place. Apart from a conventional tourist trip, you will be able to experience a true cultural exchange with the collaborators of the space.

Also, it is important to highlight that this is a wonderful experience for those who seek to travel in a more sustainable, conscious and responsible way. This is why Casa do Bartô is concerned with the regional development of Santo Hilário, seeking to produce fairs and events for the community, as well as being attentive to the correct designation of waste and composting of organic waste.

This is the true example of experiential tourism, for those who want to experience a country or place, Brazilian cuisine and connect with nature. In the end, it is a region with incredible cachoeiras and lush landscapes!

How did you start? Brief history of Casa do Bartô

gastronomic experience in Minas Gerais

I met chef João Bruno and his companion during my first volunteer trip to Brazil. At that time, Casa do Bartô was not started – and it was already a dream. João told me that his house was in his country and he spent his childhood there until he grew up and moved to Belo Horizonte, losing contact with the region.

In the capital of Minas Gerais, working in the financial market, consumed by stress and the constant demands of the professional environment, João decided to venture into gastronomy to connect with himself and his ancestry. In the end, one of his greatest joys when he was a child was accompanying his mother in the kitchen. It was also through culinary connections that the future chef created during his exchanges outside Brazil.

In 2020, shortly before the Covid-19 pandemic began, João Bruno decided to leave or start and go to France, work with a renowned chef and learn more, to do gastronomy his profession. No day of travel, meanwhile, dated borders. Thus, looking forward to dedicating herself to what she loves, she is eagerly looking forward to the new year, busy with the frustration of being stuck in a small apartment in Belo Horizonte and pursuing a career as an economist.

More or less in his heart was only stronger. Remembering his childhood home and good memories, he decided to temporarily move to Santo Hilário and work there, holding small parties for friends on weekends.

With good food, a good house and a strong feeling of accomplishment, the recipes are shaping minors in a clearer way. He began his venture in the financial market, reformed what was now his refuge, named the place in homage to his pai, Bartolomeu, and opened for the public, offering a true gastronomic experience.

Much more than gastronomy: services offered by Casa do Bartô

Currently, the main experience at Casa do Bartô is a full weekend stay accompanied by a gastronomic experience. It involves lodging from sixth to Sunday, with manhã and lunch coffee.

The rooms are comfortable and super equipped! Not that we were crazy, we had a coffee machine, clothing, personal hygiene items, a sleep box and a bed with a massage. Too much, ne?

During the days of Saturday and Sunday we also offer portions, drinks and other delicacies from home, which only experiment to know how wonderful it is. Everything is very good, by a true chef. Also, it is also possible to stay without a gastronomic experience, and they also hold non-local events.

There, I was having a nice wedding the day we got married! It is linked to the decoration:

Gastronomic experience in Minas Gerais: how it was on our weekend

We went to Santo Hilário on the sixth manhã fair and were greeted with a delicious regional coffee and country house, by Robson hair. As we were guests and had already met the chef, we felt at home and loved accompanying the scenes of the wedding that took place during the afternoon.

We spent the day talking a lot about who was there, swimming in Furna Lake and taking advantage of the tranquility that the place offers. We then sang the wedding card, accompanied by a cup of champagne and a special toast from the chef, thanking everyone who was there.

Or main dish? A Sicilian lime risoto with fish sealed in seeds, simply impecável. As we were very much in awe of the whole experience – and family – we ended up not taking photos of the food on the first night.

For Saturday dinner, the chef prepared a new dish that he developed, doing rereading of the busy cow. I can say that I have never experienced such a delicious meal in my life! Let's follow the dishes and photos of what we tasted:

Couvert

Traditional slow-fermented focaccia with coarse salt and alecrim;

Entrance

Steak tartar with filé mignon, green corn picles and cogemelos emulsão;

That's why I didn't manage to take a photo, because it was so nice that I ate everything before thinking about RSRS, more info or registration.

main meadow

Cassava gnosh with costela demi-glace; Our famous nhoque, doing rereading of the confused cow.

Desktop

Deconstructed vermilion fruit cheesecake;

I assume that I needed to stop eating or gnosh first to wait to eat that wonderful after-dinner meal, since I was cheia and did not want to stop experimenting. I finished a lot of cheesecake, but thinking that I could have eaten more chocolate!

Café da manhã

I don't need to say the deliciousness that we spent two days of coffee in manhã nesse paradise. Beyond the lake of furnas like landscape for the desert, we are still contemplated with homemade balls and bowls, fruits, eggs with bacon in a way that we have never experienced and a very tasty natural suco.
