This Wednesday, February 23, Paulinha Abelha, lead singer of the electronic forró band Calcinha Preta, died in Aracaju. In short, the singer had been hospitalized since February 11th, due to kidney problems.

According to Primavera Hospital, where the singer was hospitalized, she passed away at 7:26 pm as a result of multisystem impairment.

Biography

Paula de Menezes Nascimento Leça Viana, better known as Paulinha Abelha, was born on August 16, 1978, in the city of Simão Dias in Sergipe.

Furthermore, the singer began singing as a child in bands in the interior of the state of Sergipe, singing in electric trios when she was just 12 years old.

Anyway, Paulinha was married to model Clebinho Santos and had no children.

Career of Paulinha Abelha

Firstly, Paulinha Abelha invested in her own band, Flor de Mel, but due to lack of financial conditions and resources, after 3 years she had to give up the band. She later joined the band Panela de Barro, where she remained for 3 years until she was discovered by the manager and director of the band Calcinha Preta, Gilton Andrade, in 1998.

Then, with all the success, Paulinha gained prominence and became one of the band’s main voices, participating in 3 DVDs and 22 CDs. Finally, in August 2010, after 12 years, the singer left the band to build a new story alongside the musician and singer MARLUS, who was also a member of Calcinha Preta and with whom Paulinha fell in love and was married until 2015.

However, the singer did not have the same success and prominence as she had, so in 2014, she returned to the band Calcinha Preta. But, she left in 2016 again, returning in 2018 alongside her successful duo, Silvânia Aquino. And she has remained in the band ever since.

Throughout her career, Paulinha Abelha participated in hits such as: “Você Não Vale Nada”, “Louca Por Ti”, “Não Te amo”, “Baby Doll” and “Liga Para Mim”. Furthermore, the singer was honored in the song named after her, “Paulinha”.

Paulinha Abelha’s last commitments

In February 2020, the band Calcinha Preta recorded a 25th anniversary DVD, returning to their concert routine after months without performances due to the pandemic.

Furthermore, before his hospitalization on February 11th, the band’s last commitment was on February 8th, recording the Podpah podcast, in São Paulo.

In fact, during the program’s interview, Paulinha revealed that she had felt ill and even fainted. But, she was already feeling better.

“I felt a ‘pass’, a faint. But nothing that Podpah can’t solve, everything is great. Anything, if I get dizzy, I’ll go there. But I ate like an otter, yesterday we had wonderful sushi for dinner”, declared the singer.

Hospitalization

Arriving in Aracaju, after the band’s tour in São Paulo, Paulinha Abelha was feeling a lot of pain, so she was admitted to Hospital Primavera.

However, the singer quickly worsened and on the 16th she was taken to the ICU to undergo more specialized kidney therapy. Where she was monitored by medical teams from intensive care, neurology and infectious diseases.

But, due to bacteria in the brain, her condition worsened and the singer fell into a deep coma on February 17th. Furthermore, on the 22nd, in a press conference, the doctors responsible for the singer stated that she was in Glasgow 3, considered the worst stage of coma.

Finally, 24 hours before her death, the hospital announced Paulinha’s condition, stating that her neurological injuries were worsening. Soon after, after clinical examinations, doctors confirmed the singer’s brain death. In fact, doctors raise the hypothesis that medicines used by Paulinha (used under supervision) caused the damage to her kidneys. But there is still no proof.

Paulinha Abelha’s wake took place at Ginásio Constâncio Vieira, in her hometown. And the ceremony was open to the public.
