Hotels in Taquile, island of Lake Titicaca

Taquile is a natural island with two thousand inhabitants, a very interesting code of conduct and dress, and until the other day it was isolated from the rest of Peru, to the point where it was difficult to find anyone who spoke Spanish.

This has changed, including due to tourism, but the place still preserves its traditions. You can visit Taquile on a day trip, as the island is three hours by boat from Puno. The most traditional tour takes a whole day and passes through Uros, continues to Taquile and ends in Puno.

Where to stay in Puno: divide your stay

If one day I return to Puno and have time to spare, I will start the trip by staying in one of the hotels overlooking Titicaca. As I said before, I already stayed at Sonesta Posadas del Inca Puno for two nights, but any option there is valid.

From there I would go to the Uros, but not to visit – I would like to spend a night on the Floating Islands, either in Uros Aruma Uro or another guesthouse.

Finally, I would head to Taquile, to also sleep there. That would be my itinerary for four or five nights. Don’t have that time? You can adapt the idea, according to your script.

How many days to stay in Puno?

Puno is not the prettiest of Peruvian cities. There are those who are alarmed by the lack of painting on most houses, an effect caused by a tax exemption on properties that are not yet finished.

Even so, no staying just one night in the city. Titicaca alone deserves two days of your itinerary. And there are also the Funerary Towers of Sillustani, pre-Inca constructions that are located in a beautiful region and just a few minutes from the center of Puno.

Therefore, an ideal itinerary involves three to five days divided between Puno and Titicaca. Besides, a longer stay is essential for something else: acclimatization. Many people suffer from altitude sickness.

How much does a hotel in Puno cost per night?

Hotel prices vary according to location, style/comfort of accommodation and also the time of year.
