Miss Universe Brazil returns after another year without the promise of beauty contests due to the pandemic. However, this time, the selection brings incredible news, so that the premise becomes increasingly democratic. In this sense, seeking to boost the competitors’ careers beyond the competition. The new Miss Universe Brazil is back to crown the country’s representative in the fight for the world crown. The last stage, after the selectives, began on October 29th, in São Paulo, with 27 representatives from the states and the federal district.
According to Carlos Totti, director of the UMISS channel, for the first time, registrations took place online, so that girls from everywhere could register. Carlos comments: “They went through a selection process, and then each state developed its own contest, with the girls chosen online by the Miss Brazil team.” Furthermore, the new format helps the contest become more diverse, bringing new stories to tell.
For the director, the new Miss Universe Brazil was thought of as an innovative contest in several aspects. This way, it is possible to show the new moment in which everyone lives in the world. “Miss Universe Brazil has adapted to new times and today, in addition to beauty, we are looking for women with a lot of content, good communication and interesting experiences”. Likewise, Carlos Totti says they chose women who can use their new space of notoriety to work on their causes, to influence people in a positive way.
The new Miss Universe Brazil
In 2021, the team of candidates, according to Totti, is very strong. The women chosen have several different careers. Therefore, a competition was planned with a series of activities that help contribute to the intellectual development of the candidates. In this sense, the final stage takes place in a hotel in the capital of São Paulo, which is where everyone is confined. There, they fulfill commitments such as visits to various locations in the city and recordings with sponsors.
There is also a series of evaluations that are also part of the selection process for the new Miss Universe Brazil. On the 5th, for example, the entire team embarked on a cruise in Santos, so that they could record the final. They also carried out rehearsals, interviews and other evaluation stages there, such as bikini and gala parades. Totti comments that they also offered several lectures on topics such as career management, emotional intelligence and leadership. Other topics included empowerment and financial management.

An interesting new feature of the new Miss Universe Brazil involves the final of the contest. After defining the top 3, 3 versions of the result are filmed. This is due to the fact that the final program will only be shown on Tuesday (9), broadcast on the UMISS channel. According to the director, after disembarking the ship, the finalists continue with the production of the competition, in a series of activities. Everyone then gathers to watch the final and capture the winner’s reaction after it is announced.
The organization of the event now has a streaming channel, UMISS, on the SoulTV platform. Its aim is to publish content about the world of misses throughout the year, and not just during the competition. Carlos comments: “Before, people could only watch the final of the competition and that was it; we want to show the state competitions, the preparation for Miss Universe”. The reality documentary series “Behind The Crown” was also created, which captured the behind-the-scenes of the contest, as well as the life story and activities of the girls.
The entire process took place so that those watching could have a new perspective on the competitors. In this sense, the idea is to humanize them, making people realize that they have a life, dreams, career and perspectives.
