How about having a “cleaner” party this year? Learn how to make homemade glitter for Carnival. The best part: it doesn’t pollute and it’s cheap!

Those who love glitter like to invest in shine all year round, in makeup, clothing, shoes and accessories; but it is really during Carnival that the demand for these shiny dots increases. The problem, however, is that industrial glitter, made from plastic copolymers and aluminum follicles, is very polluting and ends up in the ocean and other inappropriate places after the party.

But that, of course, doesn’t mean that you can’t dress up and play to your heart’s content during Carnival. To avoid contributing to pollution and have a sparkling holiday, how about learning how to make homemade glitter, with just two ingredients?

As you will see, everything you will need is already in your kitchen or is very cheap and easy to find. That’s because the homemade glitter recipe requires nothing more than table salt and food coloring. Isn’t it brilliant?

How to make homemade glitter

To make it, all you need is to put the (refined) salt in a small jar or plastic bag, with a few (1 to 3) drops of dye and shake it to dye it. The bad thing is that there is no ready-made formula to follow. You will need to adjust the amount of dye little by little, to make the homemade glitter reach the desired color.

After that, you can place the homemade glitter on a baking tray and let it dry for two or three hours, so that the color sets in the salt. Now, if you are in a hurry, there is also the possibility of baking the salt in the oven, with baking paper on the bottom of the pan, for 10 to 15 minutes. If you choose the second technique, don’t forget to let the glitter cool before using it.

Isn’t it brilliant? You can mix several colors and still save money this Carnival! If you try the recipe at home, be sure to tell us how it turned out, huh!?
