Did the wine spill? Calm down, there is a solution! Vinegar, hydrogen peroxide and even table salt can help you clean a wine stain!

A little wine is always welcome when relaxing and is also a great option for two. However, nothing spoils the mood like having to clean up a red wine stain, right? Especially if the fabric in question is white!

But don’t worry, even the worst cases have a solution. As you will discover, cleaning a wine stain may not be that complicated. That is, of course, if you are quick and use the correct techniques.

And the best of all is that you don’t need to have any super expensive cleaning products to do this. Simple things like table salt, white vinegar and even hydrogen peroxide do the job perfectly.

The rule is not to freak out!

Now, before you start writing down the tips we’ve listed below, keep in mind that removing stains from fabric is far from an exact science. Therefore, it may be that one tip or another works better on a given occasion and does not meet your needs next time, understand?

Furthermore, each type of wine has a resistance to cleaning. Less full-bodied wines, for example, tend to be removed more easily, especially if the stain is still wet. In these cases, just a little soap usually solves the situation well.

Other stronger and full-bodied wines, however, may take a little more work to come out and require heavier and even more risky solutions for the integrity of the fabric. So, don’t freak out if your wine stain isn’t completely clean on the first try, okay?

How to clean wine stain:

1. Time matters

The first thing you need to know when cleaning a wine stain is that time makes all the difference in the final result, so be quick. Once the stain has dried, it can be much more difficult to completely clean the wine.

2. The power of hot water

Remove the excess drink with a paper towel or another cloth that you don’t mind getting stained and wash the item with hot water and soap. Warm water can dilute the stain and make the wine that has penetrated the fabric come off more easily.

3. Salt also helps

There are people who, instead of using paper towels to remove excess freshly poured wine, prefer to use salt, creating a thick layer of seasoning over the drink. This also works, as the salt helps absorb any excess drink that spills onto the cloth.

The ideal is to let the salt sit for at least 5 minutes before washing the item (if possible with hot water, as mentioned). If you find it necessary, you can repeat the layer of salt a few times, until the stain lightens well before washing.

4. Hydrogen peroxide in it!

Another tip for cleaning red wine stains is using a combination of liquid soap and hydrogen peroxide. This last ingredient, in fact, acts as a whitener, dissolving the drink’s pigments and making the stain much easier to remove with soap or soap.

5. What if you can’t wash it right away?

If you have the table set, for example, and the tablecloth gets dirty, or if it gets on your clothes and you can’t change it right away, the ideal is to ensure that the wine stain won’t dry so easily.

You then need to remove the excess drink as shown and put liquid soap and hot water on the stain, to help soften it and prevent it from drying completely.

6. Does boiled milk help?

Another trick that people say works is boiling milk when cleaning wine stains. But for it to work, you need to boil the milk and the stained cloth together.

When the milk starts to boil, you can turn off the heat and let the stained cloth soak there. After the stain is light, just wash as we teach.

7. Vinegar, a holy medicine

As you have already seen here, at Espaço de Mulher, vinegar can save you in many ways when cleaning. When it comes to cleaning wine stains, of course, it would be no different.

You can mix one part white vinegar with three parts warm water and rub the stain well. Then just wash the item by hand.

The stain dried. And now?

If the wine stain has dried and you haven’t been able to do anything about it, none of these previous tips may work now. But, of course, you still have alternatives that can, at least, make the stain more unnoticeable.

1. Chlorine-free bleach may work

The first is to use chlorine-free bleach, which can be used on both white and colored items. This product can provide good cleaning for the drink tincture.

2. Give him ammonia

The second option is to mix water with ammonia. Then, you must place the solution on the stain and scrub it with a small brush. Rubbing must be done until the stain is completely or partially removed.

Then, just wash the fabric to remove the solution.

3. Chlorine bleach if nothing works

Now, if you’ve tried everything and nothing has really been effective, you may have to resort to chlorine bleach.

Sodium hypochlorite solutions and even the famous candida can help, although these are more drastic measures and can end up fading the fabric, even the white ones. So, dose the product you are going to use well, especially in the case of chlorine, which can corrode the cloth.
