Kompensan: what it is, what it is for and how to use it

Heartburn

Kompensan is a medicine that contains sodium aluminum dihydroxide carbonate, a compound with antacid action that prevents the action of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thus helping to reduce heartburn.

Kompensan Trieffect is another type of medicine that, in addition to reducing heartburn and poor digestion, also contains dimethicone, a compound that works to reduce excess gas and abdominal bloating.

Kompensan 340 mg and Kompensan Trieffect 340 mg + 30mg are sold in pharmacies and drugstores in the form of suckable tablets and should be used under the advice of a gastroenterologist.

What is it for

Kompensan is indicated for the relief of heartburn, as it contains sodium aluminum dihydroxide carbonate, which works to neutralize the acidity in the stomach.

Kompensan Trieffect, in addition to reducing heartburn and poor digestion, also contains dimethicone, a compound with antiflatulent action, helping to relieve excess gas and belching, and reduce abdominal bloating.

How to drink

Kompensan tablets should be taken orally, between or after meals, or at bedtime.

The normally recommended dose for adults is 1 to 2 tablets per dose, with the maximum amount per day being a maximum of 8 tablets, which should always be taken in separate doses and should not exceed 2 tablets per dose.

Kompensan tablets should be sucked, without breaking or chewing, until they are completely dissolved in the mouth, and should not be swallowed or dissolved in water.

Possible side effects

Some of the possible side effects with the use of Kompensan include throat irritation, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, decreased sensitivity in the mouth, inflammation or infection in the tongue, swollen tongue or a burning sensation in the mouth.

Who shouldn’t use

Kompensan should not be used by children under 12 years of age, or by people with kidney problems, low blood phosphate levels, constipation, bowel obstruction or an allergy to aluminum dihydroxide carbonate and sodium or other components are medicine.

Furthermore, people who use other medications should talk to their doctor before using Kompensan, as these medications may interact, increasing or decreasing their effects.

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, Kompensan should only be used if recommended by your doctor.
