What to put in the decoration?

Beginning of summer, heat wave, New Year’s Eve and school holidays. There is no shortage of reasons to hit the road and enjoy the sunny days by the sea.

But if a trip is out of the plans, architect Aline Zanoni suggests materials and items to bring the atmosphere of relaxing days at the beach to your home decor. A interior expert points out five tips for this seasonal transformation:

1. Colors in summer decoration

“It’s nothing new that colors convey emotions and sensations. Therefore, when bringing a beach holiday atmosphere into your home, choose an al mare palette, which has tones that refer to the water, as well as natural straw and white.“, points out Zanoni.

“The straw color refers to welcoming, in addition to being super classic. It will closely resemble the tone of sea sand, while the blue will resemble the sky and the immensity of the sea. The latter is also a relaxing color, which will bring peace to the environment.”continues

2. Materials and furniture

“Opt for natural fibers, such as linen and cotton. They bring a feeling of lightness and resemble items often used on the coast, such as bags and hats, as well as reminiscent of the famous coconut trees.”says Aline.

Summer decoration of a cozy corner of a room. There is a wicker chair with white and light pink cushions, positioned next to a white table. On the wall above the table hang two paintings and a leaf-shaped decorative object. A variety of plants are present in the image; some are on shelves mounted on the wall to the left, others on the table and on the floor. The white table contains decorative objects, including a small vase with dried orange flowers. A rectangular mirror rests against the wall on the table. Two woven baskets are on the floor; one contains a folded blanket. The environment is indoors, possibly a living room, bathed in natural light.

“They can be displayed on a sofa, armchairs and even straw-colored linen curtains, as well as chairs made from natural fiber and cotton rugs. Wicker or rattan furniture, a type of fiber, is also a good choice, especially for the outdoor area.”continues.

3. Fabrics in summer decoration

“Another trick is to choose fabrics with nautical themes, such as shells, buoys and anchors, or just stripes, which can be used in cushions and blankets to cover sofas, for example. But be very careful not to choose a pattern that is too busy, with too many colors and information. It won’t be elegant or offer relaxation, but rather more stimulation to the mind”alert.

Several pillows are on the bed, including two large dark blue pillows and a mustard yellow pillow. A white nightstand sits next to the bed with a modern lamp. Above the headboard are illuminated built-in shelves containing decorative items such as vases and boxes. The room is bright and features a soft color palette.

4. Frames and decorations

The same tip for fabrics with nautical themes also applies to other decorative items, such as paintings and ornaments. “Use and abuse art inspired by the sea, such as paintings of coastal landscapes or photographs of beaches. Decorative mirrors also create a feeling of spaciousness, in addition to reflecting natural light.”mentions the architect.

A large colorful painting hangs on the wall to the right, depicting two people on a bench near a lamppost, with the blue sea in the background. Several green plants are placed around the room, including a large vase on the floor with white flowers. The wall on the right has an exposed brick texture and there are built-in shelves containing more plants. The space is light and airy, with a light floor and white walls.

5. Plants in summer decoration

“Plants are also very welcome. They can be tropical or aquatic to bring a touch of vegetation, or they can be typical of those found in vacation spots, such as palm trees, ferns and succulents. Finally, a detail that makes a difference is using candles, sprays and diffusers with fresh, oceanic fragrances to evoke the smell of the sea.”says Zanoni.

How to prepare the house for summer?

Interior designer Amanda Glória says that decoration plays a fundamental role in creating pleasant and comfortable environments in the hottest season of the year. See your tips for summer decor:

6. Cores

One of the professional’s tips for alleviating the heat is to choose light colors for the walls and furniture.“Soft tones, such as white, beige and light gray, reflect sunlight rather than absorbing it, which helps keep the room cooler”says Amanda.

The image shows an elegant and well-lit living room. There is a large, comfortable sofa in the center, adorned with white and gold cushions. In front of the sofa, there is a round coffee table with a glass top. A modern white armchair with wooden legs is on the left, covered in a mustard yellow blanket. To the right of the sofa is a small white side table with a plant on it. Three rectangular paintings hang on the wall behind the sofa; Each frame contains an abstract piece of gold geometric art on a white background. To the left of the image is a wooden tripod supporting a modern floor lamp with a white shade. Long white curtains cover the wall on the right, suggesting the presence of windows or doors to the outside. The room is dominated by light colors, with white walls and a light-colored floor.

7. Curtains or blinds in summer decoration

Another suggestion from the designer is invest in suitable curtains or blinds to block direct sunlight from entering.

The image shows a bright room with a large bed. The bed is covered in a textured brown bedspread and adorned with several decorative pillows. The wall behind the bed has a textured design that complements the color and pattern of the bedspread. There are dark gray curtains hanging in a window next to the bed, letting in natural light. A white nightstand with drawers is located next to the bed. The dark wood flooring adds a touch of elegance to the room. The room is modern and cozy, with soft lighting.

Lightweight fabrics, such as voile or linen gauze, can be used to maintain privacy without completely blocking light. Furthermore, the use of protective films on window glass is also an efficient alternative to reduce heat entry.

8. Ventilation system

Amanda Glória also highlights the importance of investing in a good ventilation system in spaces. “In addition to air conditioning, the use of ceiling fans, portable fans or even the installation of large windows that allow natural breezes to enter are interesting options, because Adequate air circulation contributes to the feeling of freshness in the environment”justifies.

9. Non-environmental plants

Using plants in decoration is another valuable tip from Amanda Glória. In addition to bringing life and beauty to spaces, plants also have the ability to reduce the ambient temperature through the evaporation of water in their leaves.

“Species like fern, the sword of Saint George and the peace lily They are great choices for indoor environments.”, says the designer. Amanda also talks about vertical gardens and green walls, both in external and internal areas, to mitigate the effects of high temperatures.

“This plant will retain heat before it enters the house, that is, it is not only an aesthetic gain, but environmental comfort essential for many architectural projects”. Studies show that green walls, on hot days, can reduce the temperature of the internal walls of buildings by up to 6 °C.
