How to make homemade highlighter with just two products

A self-respecting makeup needs to have a highlighter. Discreet or impactful, it depends on your personality; but the truth is that this product transforms the skin’s finish and makes the final appearance of the makeup much more chic.

Now, if you haven’t yet had the courage to invest in a good highlighter, don’t be sad. Today you will learn how to make your own homemade highlighter, using just two makeup products that you should already have at home.

In addition to saving, you will be able to unleash your creativity. As you yourself will get your hands dirty, you will be able to choose the tone of the homemade highlighter, whether you want it to be more discreet or more “arrival”, lighter or darker and so on.

The tip for not wasting product is to always choose shades that suit your skin tone. For example, for darker skin, shades of gold look beautiful and stand out more; while champagne tones pair perfectly with lighter skin.

What does homemade highlighter do?

1. Primer

The base of homemade highlighter is a skin primer, the kind that we apply before foundation, to fill open pores and ensure that the makeup lasts longer. If you have oily skin, the best choice is a matte primer, which won’t risk adding oil to your skin.

Now, if you don’t have oily skin or don’t have a primer, you can replace this base product with your homemade highlighter. There are people who use a more concentrated skin moisturizer, like Nivea, for example; and there are even those who use foundation.

In the latter case, however, it is necessary to take into account that the tone of the base will probably affect the final result of the highlighter. The ideal is to use a light beige tone or two tones below your skin tone, if your base is dark.

2. Illuminating eyeshadow

The second ingredient is a highlighter pigment or shadow. The tone, of course, is yours to choose. You can also mix different shades of eyeshadow, especially loose ones, which are easier to mix and make the highlighter homogeneous.

Now, if you are going to use compact eyeshadow, make sure it is well powdered before putting it in the “recipe”.

How to make your own homemade highlighter

Basically, to make homemade highlighter just put the primer (or the base product you chose) in a small pot and mix everything.

Regarding the measurements, you dose according to your preference. The ideal is to mix all the ingredients and dose the shadows until you find the tone you idealize.

Then just put the mixture in a canning jar, or even in an empty makeup jar and apply it when you put on makeup (preferably, with the help of a sponge, to spread the product well).

Just don’t use too much highlighter at once to avoid getting tired of the tone and to avoid waste.
