Fans of the comic book world received sad news last Tuesday (7). Comic artist George Pérez recently revealed that he has pancreatic cancer, and it is in the terminal stage. At 67 years old, the artist revealed that he has 6 months to 1 year to live. Thus, he also commented that he must do one last autograph session for the fans, so that he can say goodbye. George is known for creating famous artwork for the miniseries “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, as well as helping to establish DC’s “Wonder Woman” and “Teen Titans”.

His retirement had begun in 2019. In his statement, comic book artist George Pérez wrote: “To all my fans, friends and family, it’s hard to believe that it’s been almost three years since I formally announced my retirement from comics production due to my vision disability and other illnesses caused mainly by my diabetes,” he began. At the time, I was flattered by the number of tributes and testimonials that my fans and colleagues gave me.”

Furthermore, in the sequel, Pérez revealed more details about cancer. “It was fun at the time, I thought. Now, not so much. On November 29th I received confirmation that after undergoing surgery for a blockage in my liver, I have stage 3 pancreatic cancer. Likewise, he also spoke about other difficulties of the disease. “I had the option of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. But after weighing all the variables and evaluating how much of my remaining days would be doctor appointments, treatments, hospital stays, and dealing with the often stressful and frustrating bureaucracy of the medical system, I opted to just let nature take its course. I will make the most of all the time I have left. As fully as possible with my beautiful wife of over 40 years, my family, friends and my fans.”

Finally, comic artist George Pérez commented on his latest autograph session, something that is already in preparation. “There are some things to be sorted out before I leave. I’m already arranging with my agent to reimburse the artwork I started and won’t be able to finish. Even though only one of my eyes is working, I can still sign my name. I hope to do one last autograph session to make my passage easier.”

“I also hope to make this last public appearance to take as many photos as possible with my fans, so I can hug each and every one of them. I want to say goodbye with smiles and tears”, concluded Pérez.
