Benalet: what it is for and how to use it

Benalet is a medicine in the form of tablets indicated to help treat dry coughs, throat irritation and pharyngitis, caused by inflammation or irritation of the respiratory tract.

Benalet lozenges contain diphenhydramine, sodium citrate and ammonium chloride in their composition, with anti-allergic and expectorant action, reducing irritation of the throat and pharynx, relieving inflammation and diluting secretions, facilitating their elimination and improving breathing.

Benalet can be purchased in pharmacies and drugstores, in honey-lemon, raspberry or mint flavors, and used by adults or children over 12 years old.

What is it for

Benalet tablets are indicated for:

This remedy reduces irritation and inflammation of the upper airways, which can occur during flu, colds or allergies, for example.

How to use

The recommended dose of Benalet for adults and children over 12 years of age is 1 tablet, which should be dissolved slowly in the mouth and should not be broken, crushed, chewed or swallowed with water.

The maximum recommended quantity per hour is 2 tablets. The maximum recommended dose is 8 tablets per day.

Possible side effects

Although they are rare, side effects that may occur during treatment with Benalet lozenges are drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, sedation, constipation, diarrhea and difficulty urinating.

In the elderly, Benalet tablets can cause dizziness, excessive sedation, mental confusion, fainting and a drop in blood pressure, due to the presence of anti-allergy.

Who shouldn’t use

Benalet should not be used by people allergic to the components of the formula, by breastfeeding women or by people using tranquilizing medications, sedative-hypnotics, anticholinergic medications and/or monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

Benalet should also not be used by people with diabetes, children under 12 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women. See other throat lozenges.

As Benalet lozenges can cause drowsiness, it is important to avoid using this medicine in situations that require a lot of attention, such as driving a vehicle or operating heavy machinery.

Furthermore, people with pulmonary emphysema, chronic bronchitis, acute or chronic asthma, glaucoma or prostate hyperplasia should only use Benalet if recommended by their doctor.

Benalet mint and lemon flavored tablets contain tartrazine dye in their composition, and therefore should not be used by people who are allergic to salicylic acid, as it can cause allergic reactions, including bronchial asthma.
