Firstly, Belcanto, was opened in 1958, in Chiado, in Largo de São Carlos. Then, it quickly became a meeting point for figures from Lisbon’s high society. In 2012, the restaurant opened completely renovated, under the command of famous chef José Avillez. In the same year, he won his first star, and in 2014, his second. Therefore, Belcanto was the first restaurant in Lisbon to have two stars, while the chef was also the first Portuguese to receive this award.

The menu of one of the best restaurants in the world in Lisbon has a tasting menu only, and the chef offers contemporary Portuguese cuisine in a sophisticated and comfortable environment. In fact, it was there that I had an impeccable birthday dinner! Certainly an explosion of flavors that will be remembered.

Finely speaking, creativity, quality and authenticity are some of Avillez’s main ingredients. Raised in Cascais, the chef worked in several renowned kitchens in Lisbon until opening his first restaurant in 2012, Belcanto. The chef sensation Lisboa also He has had programs on television and radio. Additionally, he is the author of five books. His most recent work, for example, is from 2016. The book “Combinações ImProváveis” is a collection of the best recipes from his eponymous TV show. Avillez, in fact, was the first Portuguese to receive the Grand Prize for the Art of Cookinglike the best chef 2018, by the International Academy of Gastronomy.
