Finding accommodation in New York may not be an easy task. Therefore, many people end up giving up on staying in trendy Manhattan and opting for more distant neighborhoods, such as Brooklyn. But what if I told you that it could also be very convenient to stay in another city?
Dharma Home Suites is a hotel chain with locations in New Jersey, just across the Hudson River. It’s just a five-minute walk from the Grove St. train station or Exchange Place, which takes you straight to the heart of Manhattan. No joke, it took me about 10 minutes to get off the island, at strategic points in the city, such as the World Trade Center and Penn Station. Coming back from Brooklyn took me longer than that.

And don’t expect to find an ordinary hotel. Dharma specializes in studios and one- and two-bedroom apartments. Therefore, it is ideal for couples, families or groups of friends traveling together. Personally, I like this type of accommodation more, as it allows me to prepare my dinner and breakfast and have more privacy. With AirBnB being limited in New York, this is also a good option if you’re looking for a place of your own in the Big Apple.
The apartments are very comfortable and beautifully decorated. They have all the equipment you may need, from towels to bed linen and kitchen utensils.
The New Jersey branch also has a common room – with kitchen –, cinema, games room, meeting room and swimming pool (open in summer).
However, what caught my attention the most was the view from the room we were in. When we arrived, the fog barely allowed us to see the nearest buildings. However, at night we had this beautiful surprise:
Fortunately, on Sunday the weather decided to cooperate and we were able to see the Manhattan skyline during the day too.
