They say the best pizza in the world is São Paulo and, to my surprise, I ended up finding one very similar to the São Paulo ones in the USAa country where I don’t really like pizza.
Where to eat in Atlanta
If you are in Atlantaforget the American style of making pizza and go straight to the Ancient Pizza. A very different place, in many aspects, from everything we are used to seeing and eating in USA.
A Ancient Pizza It’s not a place to spend long hours or to sit and rest your legs while eating pizza. The visitor arrives and places an order at the cashier. Among the more traditional options are Margherita e Marinara ($18) ea Neapolitan ($21), which serves up to three people. After that, in a room with communal tables (Yes! The place looks like a cafeteria), you find a place to sit and in a few minutes your pizza will be on the table.
With lots of Italian music and a Ferrari flag hanging on the wall, the room where the tables are located also serves as a kitchen. It’s right there, in front of the customers, that the pizza makers make the pizzas while playing for those who want to take photos.
It is worth remembering that there are no glass plates and metal forks and knives there. A large roll of paper is on the table to be used when eating or, if you prefer, visitors can eat with plastic cutlery.
In addition to being a very different environment from the pizzerias we are used to in Brazil, Antico’s pizza has a traditional, familiar and São Paulo flavor. I can’t say that it’s better or equal to Italian pizza because I’ve never been to Italy, but I can say that it doesn’t lose anything to the one made in São Paulo.
Ahh, another very charming detail of the decoration is that on the wall there are several “shovels” with autographs from famous people who were there, including the actor Owen Wilson (Marley and Me).
It’s definitely a great choice for where to eat in Atlanta and still have fun with the originality of the place. Just pay attention to opening hours and be patient, as sometimes you won’t have a place to sit.
