There are countless and varied good restaurants in Miami, the gastronomy aspect has become sophisticated in recent times and only those who want to eat badly can eat badly. It is possible to find restaurants of all nationalities and recently, I was invited to have lunch at a spanish restaurant wonderful, Xixón.
It’s worth remembering that I lived in Spain for three years and I’m quite picky about the quality of the food. That’s why I can guarantee that Xixón is authentic, I felt like I was in Madrid!
And to your surprise, the owner of the restaurant is… Brazilian! But don’t think he’s my friend or relative, he followed me on twitter and kindly invited me to visit the place the next time I went to Miami.
Carlos has lived in the USA for twenty years and worked in a bank; he married a Spanish woman and they first opened a delicatessen with Spanish products. It was so successful that they decided to move on to something bigger and that’s how Xixón was born, which comes from the name Gijón, in Asturias, the region where Begoña, the owner, was born.
Located in the Coral Gables neighborhood – with a Spanish soul, starting with the street names – Xixón opens every day for lunch and dinner and has traditional Iberian cuisine, with a contemporary touch, different from others that end up giving in to Cuban influence in the city and mixing the ingredients a little. Two chefs alternate in the kitchen: one from San Sebastian – the gastronomic capital of Spain – and the other from Cádiz, in southern Spain.
We ask for entry garlic shrimp e Galician-style octopus, which were divine! Then the chef recommended a fish that was very fresh, just right! And since no one is made of iron, I was “forced” to try my favorite Spanish dessert: churros con chocolate! From Gods!
Xixón is divided into four rooms: the main hall, where the bar is located, the lower part, more reserved, where the wine cellar is located, the mezzanine, ideal for large groups and the balcony, for when the weather permits.
On Wednesdays, the restaurant hosts a guitarist from Madrid from 7pm to 9pm, who entertains those enjoying happy hour. In fact, having a drink at the friendly bar and eating some tapas is a great option, or trying a glass of wine from the extensive menu, which is served through Enomate, a super modern Italian system that serves wine by the glass.
If you’re tired of burgers and Italian food, I highly recommend a trip to this nice and great restaurant outside the tourist area of the city, one of my now friends, Carlos and Begoña.
