How much does a trip to Disney cost?

North America

At my school, only one girl had ever gone to Disney. One day, she took the photos from the trip to class and a small group of children formed around her, all burning with envy and with only one accusatory thought in their heads: “you rich girl!”

Luckily and thanks to the reduction in the price of air tickets, the increase in the number of flights, the ease of obtaining an American visa some time ago and the popularization of international travel, you no longer need to be rich to go to Disney. With a little planning, saving and research, 15-year-old girls’ favorite destination just got closer. Orlando is right there, folks!

And if you’re thinking about making your or your children’s childhood dreams come true, the first step in planning is knowing more or less how much you’re going to spend on a trip to Disney. As with everything in life, this largely depends on you, your travel style and the type of budget that fits your budget. I know people who spent a five-figure sum to spend 15 days in Mickey’s land, in one of those companies that sell packages for children and teenagers. But of course you can do it for less than that, especially if you go it alone.

Airline tickets

This item is controversial, because air ticket prices to anywhere in the world fluctuate a lot. Therefore, how much you will spend on them largely depends on your luck and willingness to research. I’ve seen promotions for several airports in Florida for R$800, but these, unfortunately, don’t appear every day.

The most common is that promotional prices are around R$1200 and R$1500. The average fare is R$1800 to R$2100. I consider more than R$2500 to be quite expensive for Florida. If it is at this price, wait a while to buy and monitor the prices every day.

A good way to find good prices on tickets is to search with different dates, both departure and return. In the case of Disney, the good thing is that you also have a range of possible airports: you can search for Orlando, Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

accommodation

Now I have good news: accommodation in Orlando is very cheap by North American standards. It is the second city with the most hotels in the country. This means that it is possible to find comfortable rooms without spending a fortune. To give us an average, let’s consider accommodation in a three-star hotel located on International Drive, one of the best places to stay in the city.

At Best Western, the daily rate for a standard room for four people starts at R$161, or R$40.25 each. At the Ramada Inn, a quadruple room costs R$203, or R$50.75. Can you spend less? Yes, but you can also spend more. This will depend on your style and budget, but we will consider these values as an average. To search for accommodation in Orlando, click here.

Park tickets

This will also depend on how many parks you are going to visit. Considering that you are planning a trip just to Disney, let’s assume that you go to all the main parks: the four Disney parks, the two Universal parks and Sea World. A ticket package for four days at Disney parks costs $294. A Universal Park-to-Park ticket for three days costs $185. We recommend purchasing this type of ticket instead of Single Park. This is how you can use the Hogwarts Express, which runs between Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Know more.

Observation: We discourage visiting tourist attractions based on animal cruelty and exploitation, such as Sea World. For more information, read this text and watch the documentary Blackfish.

Car rental

Renting a car will make your life in Orlando much easier, believe me. This is an expense that I normally avoid when traveling, always using public transport or walking. However, with the exception of metropolises, it is difficult to do this in the United States.

The daily cost of a compact car costs between R$90 and R$110. To find the best prices, you can use a dealership search engine, such as RentalCars. It’s a good idea to book in advance, as the options with the best prices are sold out, especially if you’re going in high season.

Daily expenses

Food, shopping and small expenses. Parking alone at the parks costs 17 dollars. Lunch, about 15. A combo with hamburger, soda and fries at a fast food chain costs 7.50 dollars. Add to that dinner, snacks and snacks and shopping. All of this goes into your daily budget at Disney.

On my trip, I spent around 100 dollars a day, remembering that I’m not one to buy a lot. From Orlando, I only brought a Kindle Paperwhite 3G ($200 + $40 for the case), a pair of sneakers ($50), a new case for my camera ($30) and about four souvenirs from the parks (between $10 and $27) to give away. as a gift. If you’re the type who is crazy about excess luggage, you should obviously take more.

After all, how much does a trip to Disney cost?

Calculator in hand? Considering the average prices I described in the post, a 10-day trip would cost around 2,350 dollars (R$9,447*) per person, including ticket. To this amount, you also need to add travel insurance (find out here how to take out a cost-effective one) and visa costs, if you don’t have one. Of course, everyone will have different budgets and needs, so don’t use this number as an absolute figure, but just as a basis for budgeting your own trip.

*The dollar value used in this post was R$4.02
