Trendy restaurant with a view in Faria Lima

South America

I finally discovered Baleia Rooftop, a trendy restaurant with a view of Faria Lima! Opened in November last year, it is located on the fourth floor of the B32 building, a multi-use complex that brings together a super technological theater, corporate tower and restaurants. The building, designed by architect Eji Hayakawa, has already won the title of work of art and, in addition, was voted the most sustainable building in Latin America. Right at the entrance to the B32, we came across a metal whale structure six meters high and 20 meters long. With a New York vibe, Baleia Rooftop (named after the play “Jonas and the Whale”) has a Mediterranean inspiration, various environments, elegant decor and a privileged view of the city. Indeed, a place you need to visit in São Paulo!

In total there are 680 square meters and five rooms, all with glass enclosures, which allow for greater integration between them and the city. In charge of the restaurant are businessmen Jair Coser, Ângelo Coser and partner Mara Santalla, from the Corrientes 348 group. The person responsible for the menu is chef Flávio Miyamura, who already works at the group’s other restaurant, the Asian Dasian, on the ground floor of B32. Right at the entrance to Baleia Rooftop, there is a central bar with a reception and big screen, ideal for having a few drinks while you wait.

The main room is completely covered in glass, while the other two rooms function as private rooms, which can be reserved for an event, celebration or lunch. When free, they expand the restaurant space, with capacity for 230 seats. Meanwhile, the icing on the cake is the outside of the house, where there are four private wooden bungalows around a garden with tables covered in ombrelones that extend to the building’s parapet. If the weather is colder, don’t worry because the restaurant offers warm blankets!

Baleia Rooftop’s menu

Chef Flávio Miyamura bets on raw and fresh noble fish, homemade pasta, as well as a selection of the best cuts of meat, following the group’s DNA. Therefore, as a starter, there are several options to share, such as, for example, shrimp confit in olive oil with chips garlic bread (R$ 114), Turkish bread with semi-cured cheese and truffles, and croquettes ham with slightly spicy salsa (R$44).

Among the main dishes, highlights include the lamb jarret (R$168), roasted with Moroccan couscous, dried fruits and meat reduction, and the risottos, which come in two versions – tucupi with grilled crayfish (R$109) and limoncello with sautéed shrimp (R$ 110). Meanwhile, in the dessert section, called Tomorrow Diet (diet only tomorrow), the suggestion is the Baleia Mousse (R$ 36), prepared in-house with three types of chocolate.

The drinks menu was consulted by bartender Marco De La Rocha, who was inspired by the whale itself and the movement of the waters. The Narval GT, for example, is a tribute to the unicorn whale, whose name derives from the interpretation of the ancient Greeks, who took the animal’s elongated tusk for a frontal horn. In addition, there is also an excellent wine list, with more than 1,200 bottles.

In fact, this restaurant overlooking Faria Lima completely won me over, and I can’t wait to go back during the day!
