Another novelty in Rio’s hotel industry: Copacabana will have the first Fairmont Hotel in Brazil! The building of the former Sofitel Copacabana has already begun construction work and the hotel is expected to be open in September 2018.
At a press lunch, the CEO of AccorHotels in South America, Patrick Mendes, told us more details about the new changes.
Copacabana will get the first Fairmont Hotel
The privileged location, overlooking the entire Copacabana coastline, was fundamental. After all, do you want more luxury than being on one of the most famous beaches in the world?
The new Fairmont will maintain the current 4oo rooms, but completely redesigned and with the Rio soul, designed by architect Patricia Anastassiadis, a Brazilian who has already won the Corporate Architecture Award in the Hotel Interiors category. A new pool area will have private lounges, as well as a Spa with a VIP suite and a convention hall with 800 seats.
The Fairmont brand has more than 60 hotels around the world in 22 countries, such as the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica, where our editor Renata Araujo has stayed. Another luxury accommodation reference arriving in Brazil!
AccorHotels continues to invest heavily in the hotel industry in Rio de Janeiro. Between 2012 and 2016, there were 25 openings, increasing the number of group hotels in the State from 8 to 32. One of the brand’s newest hotels in the city is Mama Shelter, in Santa Teresa.
Sofitel Ipanema
And the news does not stop there. Meanwhile, next door, the iconic Hotel Caesar Park Ipanema managed by Sofitel, is preparing to transform into Sofitel Ipanema. Coming soon, areas such as lobby, lounge, apartments and suites, restaurant, SPA and rooftop will be renewed.
We loved knowing that Copacabana will be the first Fairmont Hotel in Brazil, and we are already curious to see the result!
