Home remedy options

Some home remedies that help treat liver problems are:

1. Green tea

Green tea is rich in epigallocatechin, a phenolic compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help detoxify and reduce liver fat, very common in fatty liver disease.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of green tea leaves;
  • 200 ml of water.

Preparation mode:

In a pan or kettle, boil the water. After turning off the heat, add the green tea leaves, cover the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes. Strain and drink up to 4 cups of this tea per day.

This tea is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Likewise, it is not recommended for children, people with difficulty sleeping, thyroid disorders, kidney problems, anemia, gastric ulcers and gastritis.

2. Boldo tea

Boldo tea is an excellent home remedy to treat fatty liver, because it stimulates the secretion of bile, a compound that helps with the digestion of food, preventing symptoms such as headache, nausea and malaise.

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of chopped boldo leaves;
  • 200 ml of water.

Preparation mode:

In a pan, boil the water and then turn off the heat. Add the chopped boldo leaves, cover the pan and let it rest for 5 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 cups per day.

Boldo should not be used by children, pregnant women and breastfeeding women. Likewise, it is not recommended for those with high blood pressure, gallbladder problems, kidney disease or hepatitis.

3. Beetroot juice with lemon

Beetroot is rich in flavonoids and carotenoids, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds that protect the liver against free radicals, helping to prevent the accumulation of fat in the liver.

Lemon is rich in vitamin C, a nutrient that helps detoxify the liver, promoting the elimination of toxins from the body.

Ingredients:

  • 1 small raw beet;
  • 1 lemon;
  • 1 and 1/2 glass of water.

Preparation mode:

Wash well, peel and cut the beetroot into cubes. Squeeze the lemon and place in a blender. Place the beetroot and water in the blender and blend for 2 minutes. Drink afterwards.

4. Artichoke tea

Artichokes are rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, bioactive compounds that protect and improve liver functions, relieving symptoms of poor digestion, nausea and abdominal pain.

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of water;
  • 1 teaspoon (5 to 6g) of dried artichoke leaves.

Preparation mode:

In a pan, or kettle, boil the water and then turn off the heat. Add the artichoke leaves and let rest for 5 minutes. Strain the tea and drink up to 3 cups a day.

This tea is not recommended for people with gallbladder problems, hepatitis or liver cancer without medical advice. Artichoke tea is also not recommended for people using anticoagulant medications, pregnant or breastfeeding women and children under 12 years of age.

5. Pineapple juice with turmeric

Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, a nutrient with powerful antioxidant action that helps detoxify the liver, promoting the elimination of toxins from the body.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory and digestive effects, promoting the production of digestive enzymes and helping to treat liver problems.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices of pineapple;
  • 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder;
  • 1 glass of filtered or boiled water.

Preparation mode:

Chop the pineapple slices into cubes and place in a blender. Add the water and turmeric to the blender and blend for 2 minutes or until the mixture is very homogeneous. Drink afterwards.

Because it contains turmeric, this juice is not recommended for people who are using anticoagulant medications. Pregnant or breastfeeding women can only drink this juice under medical supervision.

6. Milk thistle tea

Milk thistle is a plant with anti-inflammatory and digestive properties and can be used to complement the treatment of cirrhosis, hepatitis or fatty liver, for example.

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon of crushed milk thistle fruits;
  • 1 cup of boiling water.

Preparation mode:

Place the crushed fruits in a cup of boiling water, cover and let rest for 15 minutes. Strain and drink 3 to 4 cups a day.

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should only consume this tea under the guidance of a doctor.

7. Jurubeba infusion

Jurubeba infusion is an excellent home remedy for liver problems, as it is a medicinal plant that has diuretic and digestive properties, helping to treat liver problems.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons of jurubeba leaves or flowers;
  • 1 liter of water.

Preparation mode:

Boil water in a pan or kettle. After turning off the heat, add the jurubeba leaves or flowers to the pan, cover and let it rest for 10 minutes. Strain and drink up to 3 cups per day.

This infusion is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, nor should it be used for more than 1 week.
