Carnivores, prepare for a feast. It’s almost impossible to avoid a meal with a huge piece of meat in Argentina. For the same reason, vegetarians will have problems. But there is a solution: Buenos Aires is also full of vegetarian restaurants.
I eat meat, but in a reduced form. I avoid eating during the week, for example. As I spent two months in the capital of Argentina, I faced this problem. There are some solutions, which start in a self-service style restaurant – you just put whatever you want on your plate – and also include places that don’t cook anything with meat.
If hunger strikes and you don’t find any vegetarian menu near you, empanadas are always there to save you. There are several traditional flavors that are vegetarian, such as cheese and onion, and you can buy them on almost every corner in the city.
But if you don’t want to give up a real lunch, write down the addresses below and there will be plenty.

Vegetarian Restaurants in Buenos Aires
Naturally Granix: cheap vegetarian restaurant in Buenos Aires
The restaurant operates on two systems: you can face the scales, as in any self-service, but in a 100% meat-free establishment with many vegetarian options. Or you can do better – pay a fixed price and eat as much as you want, without worrying about the scale.
We opted for the second alternative. An all-you-want-to-eat vegetarian meal costs around R$25, depending on the exchange rate at the time of your trip. The price includes juice and dessert.
Don’t expect a cool atmosphere, made for tourists. Naturally Granix targets the crowd of Buenos Aires who pass through the center of the capital every day for work and want a meat-free option for lunch. Therefore, the restaurant is simple and spacious. It has 700 square meters, lots of tables and a view of the hustle and bustle of downtown Buenos Aires (if you can get a seat at the window, of course).
Don’t want to eat there? Like other restaurants in Buenos Aires, Granix operates on a “to go” basis. You can pack your lunch and eat in Plaza de Mayo (and with a view of Casa Rosada), for example.
But the best thing about Granix is the variety of dishes. In Brazil there is a mentality that a dish without meat is not complete (and cannot be good). A tremendous lie. Just look at the number of options available – at least a dozen starters, several main courses and some desserts.
Granix is linked to the Adventist Church and has been operating for over 20 years. It’s inside Galería Güemes, at number 165 on Calle Florida (the same building has a viewpoint on the terrace that’s also worth a visit). Open from Monday to Friday, from 11am to 3pm.
Naturaleza Sábia: comfort, charm and organic wines in San Telmo
If you prefer a nicer and more comfortable place to have lunch without the rush of self-service, Naturaleza Sábia is an option. Located at 958 Balcarce Street, in San Telmo, the place is inside a charming old building, the restaurant serves 100% vegetarian food with vegan and celiac options.
The place also has a space for events and offers yoga, meditation, tai chi classes, literary workshops, theater, lectures on natural nutrition, reiki, dancing, singing, massage and much more. That’s why it’s always a good idea to check the schedule on the official website.
The menu features the most varied and colorful salads, pastas, crepes and even meat-free versions of famous Argentine dishes, such as milanesas. There is also a good selection of juices, as well as craft beers and organic wines.
Sattva: vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Buenos Aires
The full name is Sattva Conciencia Vegetariana. The restaurant aims to offer tasty and healthy food in the midst of the rush of everyday life or a cozy atmosphere for dinner on a special night.
There are four dish options for lunch, one for each week of the month. The full menu includes homemade bread, a drink and a coffee or tea. At night, the options are more extensive and even include burgers and vegan pizzas.
The place also claims to use sustainable practices in purchasing ingredients and preparing dishes. It is at Montevideo, 446, right in the city center, close to the Uruguay metro. Official site.
Krishna Veggie: Indian restaurant with an Argentine touch
This is where India meets Argentina. Krishna offers options that include the typical cuisine of both countries, in a healthy and tasty mix. The menu features empanadas, milanesas, lassis and curries, as well as other dishes.
The space is beautifully decorated with references to Hinduism. It is located at Malabia Street, 1833, in the Palermo neighborhood. Official site.
Buenos Aires Verde: smart eating
One of the best-rated vegetarian restaurants in Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires Verdes offers vegetarian, vegan, raw, organic and agrochemical-free options. It is run by chef Mauro Massimino, who specializes in this type of food.
In addition to the restaurant with daily dishes, the place also serves cakes and breads, and has a warehouse with organic and ecological products for those who want to test their own recipes at home. Everything prepared with quality ingredients from local producers and respecting earth cycles and sustainability.
There are two branches, one in Palermo (street Gorriti, 5657) and another in Belgrano (street Vidal, 2226).
