1. Your feet may hurt less, but your heels may hurt more

At least temporarily.

Wearing high heels for a prolonged period of time can shorten your Achilles tendons, the tissues that connect your calf muscles to your heel bones.

It may take up to a few months, depending on how often you wear heels, until they regain their previous length.

2. Your back and lower back pain may go away

If you stop wearing heels, your back and lower back pain may go away.

Do you have an amazing pair of heels that make your butt pert? This happens because the height of the jump causes your pelvis to shift and arch backwards.

If you stop wearing heels, the pressure exerted on the lower back caused by the displacement of the pelvis may decrease and thus your back and lower back pain may disappear.

A study carried out in 2015 observed that an imbalance in the ankle muscles can occur when wearing high heels for a long time.

Lower shoes help stabilize and promote better balance. This is yet another reason for you to stop wearing heels!

5. You may feel like your legs are shorter

Although your legs may appear slightly shorter once you stop wearing heels, you are actually helping them lengthen.

Heeled shoes can cause shortening of the calf muscles by compressing the heel and also the Achilles tendons, as we mentioned at the beginning.

Change into flatter shoes and do some stretches. This will help restore muscle length.

Consider these observations:

  • Are high heels amazing? Yes.
  • Are high heels harmful in the long term? Yes.
  • Does this mean you should throw all your pairs in the trash? No!

You can continue wearing heels, but in moderation. If an outfit looks just as good with a high shoe as it does with a low shoe, choose the low shoe.

This way, you can save your favorite model for special occasions and rock it – not forgetting, of course, to keep a pair of flip-flops for you to put on as soon as you leave the party.

Don’t exchange comfort and health for vanity. You don’t have to stop wearing heels forever, but you can moderate the frequency of use. Your feet will thank you!
