Yuzu: Japanese or Asian Lemon

News

From time to time, I always manage to quote the damn you e amado Yuzu (Citrus ichangensis x Citrus reticulata was. austere). It is a variety of lemon — a hybrid in fact — that is well known in the East and has become popular in the USA.

I say it is damn you, at least for us, due to the difficulty of finding it. And normally hybrids do not produce viable seeds, so planting becomes complicated. Already amado, for the aromas and flavors it adds to the preparations. However, some places mention that they managed to produce the specimen through seeds. Either way, I saved the seeds.

It has Chinese origins, but much of the production is made in Japan. Its use is vast, ranging from cooking to cosmetics, which I think is a waste… Unlike Neide, I didn’t find the juice to be that sour. To tell the truth, sweet I would say. Softer than Sicilian lemon even in terms of taste. But of course, it’s sour.

Something I notice, visually the external part of Neide’s and mine are similar, but internally it is different. You’ll see, our varieties are different.

Yes, seeds. That’s right, yuzu in Brazil! Yes, baby!

Word has it that the fruit is produced in the interior of São Paulo and the season is precisely in May. Beautiful, right? Almost. It seems that a chef from SP buys the entire production! That’s why no one finds it.

So, I present this yuzu.
