The level of beauty may be relative, but there is no denying it – it is in this region that the city’s most preserved, least frequented and urbanized beaches are concentrated, with the Atlantic forest still lush.
13 km from the center, Itamambucaa beautiful beach populated by surfers and the region’s tanned youth, is the best area for those looking for accommodation in the north.
There, the hotel chain is concentrated mainly in Recanto de Itamambuca, an old village that has campsites, hostels and inns, but to get to the beach from there you have to cross the river or go around a condominium of houses (makes it easier if you are by car).
The region is rustic, with dirt streets and a more precarious service infrastructure than the center, but it is a great option for those looking for peace and contact with nature.

Leaving the center, towards Caraguatatuba, are the southern beaches. The region has some very busy beaches for those looking for excitement and others that are quieter and, amazingly, even deserted.
Among the most famous is Praia das Toninhas, halfway between Grande and Enseada beaches, which pleases both swimmers (who are concentrated on the right side, where the sea is calmer) and surfers.
The hotel and service structure is good. Praia da Enseada, 9 km from the center, has calm seas and several kiosks offering water activities and tourist toursas well as a good stretch of sand perfect for those who like to play sports on the beach.
Other beaches in the region are Pequerê-Mirim, Praia do Lázaro, Praia Dura, Praia da Fortaleza, Praia da Lagoinha, Praia do Sapê and Madaratuba.
