What it’s like to stay in a Riad in Marrakech

News

I decided to stay in a Riad on my first few days in Marrakech to have an authentic and exclusive experience. A Riad is a typical Moroccan residence, which can range from a modest house to even a palace. Furthermore, it is always within the medina. Currently, many of these houses function as guesthouses, are generally run by families and have few rooms. I was at Riad Due, very well located in the city center, with exceptional service and a beautiful rooftop. With attentive service and very spacious rooms, it has even been on the cover of a French decoration magazine, look how cool! After all, the environments are extremely welcoming and well set up. Take the opportunity to also read our seven-day itinerary in Morocco.

Location

Riad Due has a strategic location in the Mouassine neighborhood, in the heart of the medina. It is a 10-minute walk from the Square Djemaa El-Fnathe main and most famous in Marrakech!

What is it like to stay in a Riad

Hospitality in Riads is usually warm and attentive. Upon arrival, I had a transfer from the airport and they even gave me an old cell phone so I could call the hotel when I needed to. I thought that was great! Whenever I arrived, regardless of the time, I could call dear Rachid to pick me up at the entrance to the medina.

The layout of the Riads is also very similar. There is a central courtyard with a fountain or even a swimming pool, like in Due, and surrounding common areas. The patio, in fact, was charming in itself! The architecture of a riad is typical Moroccan, rich in colors, many columns and tiles, as well as elaborate walls and pilasters. And the patio was exactly like that, with well-kept landscaping and several outdoor tables and armchairs. If you want, you can even have afternoon tea there.

Furthermore, it is also possible to start the day there with a delicious breakfast. Simple but homemade, with breads, eggs, jams, juices and fruits.

The rooms

The bedrooms are on the upper floors. In the case of Riad Due, there are only four. My Zan Suite was very spacious, cozy and comfortable. The decor is typical of the country, with black marble floors, many colors in the carpets and bedspreads, and the ceiling is all worked on.

In fact, one of the rooms even has a hand-carved copper bathtub near the window.

Meanwhile, the bathroom was equally spacious, with two sinks and modern design.

O rooftop

In fact, the greatest asset of this riad in Marrakech is the rooftop, which has a magnificent view of the city! Surrounded by palm trees and exotic cacti, there are some sun loungers and an area with tables and chairs for those who want to have lunch or dinner outdoors.

Staying in a Riad in Marrakech was certainly an incredible experience! I recommend!
