What is Skincare (and how to set up a skin care routine)

Beauty

Skincare is an English term that means skin care and refers to the daily routine that one must have to maintain healthy, hydrated, smooth, luminous and youthful skin for longer.

To get all the benefits of skincare, it is important that products are used in the care routine according to the person’s skin type, that is, whether it is dry, normal, combination or oily, whether or not it is sensitive and whether acne is more likely to appear. See how to know your skin type.

Therefore, taking into account the skin type, the daily care routine and the most suitable products can be recommended by the dermatologist to obtain better results. In this way, the routine skincare can be done as follows:

1. Cleaning

Cleansing your face is essential to keep your skin healthy, allow cell regeneration and enhance the action of products applied to your face. Correct cleansing removes impurities, excess oil, dirt and pollution accumulated during the day, dead cells and makeup.

Cleansing can be done with cleansing gel, cleansing milk or micellar water, adapted to the skin type, it is important to apply a toner at the end, which helps to remove traces of impurities, tones the skin, reduces the size of pores and prepares the skin to receive the active ingredients.

Cleansing products should be applied twice a day, morning and night, before moisturizing.

2. Exfoliation

Exfoliation is a very important step, as it helps to remove dead cells, unclog pores and promote cell renewal.

For a long time, it was recommended that you only do this step twice a week, so as not to damage your skin. However, there are now gentler products with smaller particles, which allow this care to be carried out every day, without being abrasive to the skin.

In addition to physical exfoliants, which are those that have microspheres in their composition, there are also chemical exfoliants, with alpha hydroxy acids, such as glycolic acid or lactic acid, which can be applied daily or according to the dermatologist’s instructions.

3. Serum

The serum is one of the most important in the skin care routine, because it has more concentrated active components, compared to creams, and penetrates deeper into the skin, allowing for a more effective treatment.

The serum can have a moisturizing, antioxidant, anti-aging or anti-blemish action, for example, and must be chosen taking into account the person’s concerns about their skin.

4. Eye cream

Eye creams serve to hydrate and protect the eye area, as well as prevent aging and prevent the appearance of eye bags and dark circles. These products have a thinner texture than face creams and are more easily absorbed by the skin.

The eye cream should be applied morning and night, to the bony area around the eyes, using gentle touches.

5. Moisturizing creams

The day and/or night cream serves to hydrate, nourish and protect the skin against external aggressions, such as pollution. The day cream must have sunscreen or must be followed by the application of a sunscreen.

This product should be applied to the face, neck and chest, avoiding the eye area, after cleansing and applying the serum.

In addition to these precautions, it is important to have a healthy and balanced diet to maintain skin health. See the following video on how to keep your skin healthy:
