Weekends are usually lively in Beberibe, especially on the Morro Branco and Fontes beaches. Excursions from several cities in Ceará and especially from Fortaleza end in the paradisiacal soil of Beberibe. Most people concentrate on these two beaches, as they are close to the tents, inns and restaurants. However, if you want peace and quiet there are a wide range of beaches further away that are just as beautiful as the popular ones and perfect for diving. In addition to the beaches, local handicrafts stand out with silkscreen printing, labyrinths and bobbins. For more alternative tours, it’s worth taking buggies and rafts around the surrounding area.
Tours
What’s the point of visiting a rustic fishing village and not taking typical tours? Buggy and raft rides have become a tradition among tourists. Take the opportunity to see the immense dunes, walk and bathe in rivers and discover the rich native mangrove vegetation. Foz do Rio Choró and Rio do Uraú are mandatory destinations. Also remember to visit the famous Labyrinth of Cliffs at Praia do Morro.
Cliffs Natural Monument
The national park is Beberibe’s postcard and reveals a landscape that includes trails between cracks and cliffs, caused by wind and water erosion, which change color and shape all the time. It can be done with or without guides. It is on Morro Branco Beach. There is an excellent range of hotels and restaurants around.
Buggy ride
The more than 180 accredited buggies in Beberibe allow tourists unforgettable trips. It’s the best way to tour the main tourist attractions and natural beauty without missing anything. The tours vary according to the preference of each tourist, but the options are basically: the Labyrinth of Falésias and Lagoa do Uraú, the tours between rivers and dunes on the beaches of Barra Nova and Águas Belas or even Canoa Quebrada.
Mouth of the Choró River
The mouth of this river borders the city of Cascavel. It stands out for its mangrove vegetation and the incredible meeting of the river with the sea. Through a rustic raft it is possible to experience a unique experience between freshwater lagoons, native vegetation and dunes up to 45 meters high. If you’re lucky, you’ll also see white herons crossing the sky.
Water park
Located on Praia das Fontes, the privileged location contributes to the success of the water park that operates within the Hotel Parque das Fontes. It is a great option for families with children, where you can enjoy the water slides, ramps and wave pools.
Uruaú Lagoon
A stop at Lagoa do Uruaú is practically mandatory for divers and water sports enthusiasts. Diving can be done in the channel and wrecks of the Siqueira Campos and Remédios ships. It is the largest lagoon in Ceará, 18 km long surrounded by dunes. Jet-skiing, speedboat and water skiing can be enjoyed. Native fishing is also carried out by local residents, just as skibunda is present among the activities practiced by tourists.
Raft tour
On almost all beaches it is common to see the rustic, colorful rafts of fishermen from the village making up the view. Tourists who visit Praia do Morro Branco and Fontes are tempted to take trips on these peculiar boats. If you’re willing, board alongside fishermen on rafts and discover new scenery including swimming in lagoons.
Craftsmanship
In addition to the beauty of the beaches, the craftsmanship also surprises with the meticulousness and whimsy of the productions. Artisans create utensils, clothing and various souvenirs. Through the use of colored sand, cowrie shells, cotton, stones, leather, straw, wood and clay, rustic pieces of great taste emerge.
Among the countless options of handcrafted products, the following stand out: silkscreen printing in which colored sand collected from cliffs is mixed with paint and beach sand and adorns glass bottles whimsically created by the creativity of artisans; labyrinth crafts with artisans focused on immense canvases that give rise to tablecloths, clothes and trays and the bobbin lace that is made on a hard cushion and with lace intertwined by the skilled hands of the lacemakers. It is located at the Morro Branco Artisans Association, on Rua Luiz Gama.
