Presenter Tiago Leifert detailed to the public the circumstances surrounding the cancer of his little daughter, Lua, aged 1 year and 3 months.
Tiago Leifert and his wife, Daiana Garbin, told a little more about the period leading up to the discovery of their daughter, Lua’s cancer. The girl, who is 1 year and 3 months old, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare tumor in the eyes. In this sense, when Tiago Leifert details his daughter’s cancer, the presenter gets emotional several times talking about what happened.
“I had gone to Rio to record 10 days of ‘The Voice Brasil’. When I came back, missing her, I picked her up from the crib to play and saw that she didn’t look me in the eye, she looked kind of sideways. She was looking at me, but looking kind of there… And I said: ‘Dai, she didn’t look me in the eye’. I put her in front of the mirror and saw her right eye make an irregular movement. I asked if she had hit her head, but she hadn’t.”
Furthermore, Daiana also talks about her reaction to her father’s concern. “I said, ‘Stop being crazy, she’s perfect.’ I think a mother’s heart doesn’t want to see”, lamented the journalist. Soon after, after Tiago’s insistence and support from the internet, she took her daughter to an ophthalmologist. “He looked at it and said right away that this was not good. He referred us to a specialist and said it was probably a tumor. She didn’t show any signs. No pain, no discomfort. We would never have imagined.”

Likewise, on the occasion when Tiago Leifert details his daughter’s cancer, he was visibly emotional and also commented on other dangers of the diagnosis. According to him, due to the delay in seeking a doctor and lack of knowledge of the symptoms of the disease, the tumor had already reached its maximum level. “The disease was already at its limit, in stoppage time. We were very, very lucky. Of course, when I pray, I ask for her healing and more, but we already have a lot to be thankful for because we got there in the nick of time.”
“The pressure in her eye was already super high, she was at serious risk when we arrived. But we too, right after they ruled out the metastasis, we were taken over by a force and we left, we went upstairs. She was very happy and we went upstairs. But if it took a week longer we would be in a different tone in this interview here”, he continued. “Retinoblastoma is from A to E. We found the one in the right eye to be size E, which is the maximum possible.”
The presenter, much loved by his viewers, even admitted that he was crying in secret over the situation with Lua. “I found out the day before the recording of the second phase of ‘The Voice’. I called Boninho right away and he told me to stay at home and he would find a way. “I’m not a sad person, I’m always upbeat, but in those days I knew darkness. I was in no condition to work. It took us a few days, after some chemotherapy sessions, to say: ‘let’s start trying to live again’”.
Moon Situation
Then, Daiana also commented on how her daughter’s treatment worked. “We have already had 4 chemotherapy sessions, which is like surgery, catheterization. Doctors take the medicine to the eye and that’s why it doesn’t have many side effects. We still don’t know how many sessions will be needed, but we have a lot of confidence, a lot of faith and certainty that our daughter will be completely cured.”
Finally, shortly before the end of the interview, Tiago joked with his wife by highlighting that they both did not cry. In turn, the journalist responded that she was holding on tight. “We agreed never to cry in front of the moon either. In front of the Moon is joy. The child feels everything, so we cry hidden in the bathroom. Cry together, but not to the Moon.”
“We need to stay strong so that she can stay strong too. The fact that she doesn’t know what’s happening, she doesn’t let us be sad, because she’s always so happy, so willing, that I say: ‘my daughter, you give me the strength to succeed, to accept all the difficulties, to have the strength to be here talking to you.”
