The new Lota da Esquina, a restaurant in Cascais by chef Vitor Sobral

Europe

Just 34 km from Lisbon, that is, it takes about 35 minutes by car, Cascais is a charming Portuguese village. Much sought after by Brazilians who go on a trip or who chose Portugal to live, for example. But once there, you need to visit Lota da Esquina, chef Vitor Sobral’s newest venture, where I had a wonderful lunch! In a historic building in the center, where the old fish market was located, the restaurant in Cascais has a bold design, with several environments, and offers Portuguese cuisine, with a focus on fresh local fish and seafood. Furthermore, the service is attentive, and the decor is modern, light and cozy. Certainly a must go in Cascais! Take the opportunity to also read about Farol: Five Star Hotel in Cascais!

New restaurant in Cascais

In the two-storey building of Docapesca de Cascais, in total there are around two thousand square meters and capacity for 400 people. Lota da Esquina brings together three concepts: Sea, Land and Bar Mundo. Right at the entrance, we have the Mar restaurant lounge, decorated in shades of blue and green and beautiful lamps. Next door, a bar for customers to have a drink while waiting for a table. On the second floor, a large, more relaxed space with sofas and tropical elements, such as plants that hang from the ceiling and wicker chandeliers. It is the Terra restaurant, which offers grilled meats. In fact, this is also where Bar Mundo is located, with live music, a DJ and a drinks menu.

O menu

Lota’s menu is separated by water, fire, air and earth. Therefore, from the sea we have very fresh seafood, while from the fire come charcoal-grilled meats and vegetables. Meanwhile, from the land are wines and spirits and from the air, oysters and marinades, as well as champagne. Remembering that when creating recipes, the chef prioritizes ingredients from certified origins, respecting seasonality, and coming from local producers. The details in the presentation also caught attention, such as the cover charge, which comes separately in a box.

Know more

I started my lunch with light and delicate scallops
laminated with toasted almonds (€19.50) and natural oysters (€17.00). For the main, the restaurant’s focus is dishes to share, such as rice, moquecas and cod. We opted for the shrimp pasta which was impeccable! Furthermore, the sweets are also unmissable, after all, we are talking about Portuguese cuisine. Therefore, we went to the Dessert Tasting (€12.50) which included burnt coconut cream and macerated pineapple (€5.50) and bacon from heaven with toasted almond powder and lemon ice cream (€8.50).
