I had an impeccable lunch at the restaurant at the Hotel Plaza Athénée, in Paris, a sophisticated property that bears the Dorchester Collection seal. The restaurant, opened in 1936, is practically a Parisian institution. It’s a success and very busy at lunch time. The environment, with decoration Art Deco, It is elegant and has beautiful chandeliers, as well as engraved stained glass windows of the zodiac.

The environment

In the menu, created together with executive chef Jocelyn Herland, the inspiration is his grandmother and Parisian brasserie cuisine. Therefore, it brings affectionate and classic dishes, but with a touch of innovation. O “My Grandmother’s Pâté 1951“, for example, is a tomato stuffed with rice pilaf. The 1962 Goldfish Gratin is one of its flagships.

I started my lunch with a generous foie gras and then ordered the steak tartare cooked at the table and seasoned to the customer’s taste. Phenomenal! My friend Gerson, a Brazilian professional photographer in Paris, opted for the fillet wrapped in the croissant crust. In fact, the presentation was impressive!

The desserts – chocolate and caramel mousse – were equally divine, as were the French wines.
