The world had to wait for months for an old project by the couple Janaína and Jefferson Rueda to get off the ground and onto the streets. More than having extra tables outside the restaurant’s internal limits, the idea was to include Casa do Porco in the local scene. Quite a challenge, especially at a time when bars and restaurants are resuming post-pandemic. More than making the environment safe for staff and customers, it was necessary to transmit this feeling of security to everyone, without losing the borogodó of the place. Therefore, in this post, discover the new Casa do Porco, in São Paulo, considered the best restaurant in Brazil. Take the opportunity to also read about the return of hotels in Brazil and the resumption of tourism in Santa Catarina.

The new Casa do Porco, in São Paulo
Without precise measures, the first major test of this new recipe took place at the beginning of the month, with the reopening of the house and the launch of the Ocupa Rua pilot project. In the eyes of the public, overnight, Rua General Jardim became part of the neighborhood, in an organic, charming way, without advancing on the sidewalk and, what is most important nowadays, safe. Metal structures were built at sidewalk level, Atlantic Forest plants in concrete pots, tables respecting distancing.

Vases with plants from the Atlantic Forest guarantee warmth and privacy at the tables
Nothing with a “nice” look. Everything was designed to be there, truly as an extension of the restaurant, the only Brazilian restaurant in the ranking The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. It was as if tables, chairs, glasses, plates and gifts had always been there. Rueda couple things doing Rueda couple things. Furthermore, another important change in the reopening is reservations, which did not exist until then. Now, it is only possible to go to the restaurant by making a reservation by calling (11) 3258-2578.

#porcoepop
There was so much news around that the biggest star, the pig, gave up the spotlight. For now, no new menu. In fact, it doesn’t even need to. After almost five months of closed doors, missing the #porcoepop classics is a top score on a happiness scale.
+Dishes to warm up in SP winter
Want to take a test? Try to finish reading some of the classic dishes on this menu without salivating: papada sushi, panceta with guava, street barbecue, that feijoadinha that is so beautiful it is (almost) a shame to eat, San Zé pork, with pumpkin quibebe and farofa egg. Ah, certainly all of this accompanied with Cachaça da Lage, a favorite of the house.

Security protocols endorsed by Incor
The safety and health protocols of the group’s operations, which also includes Bar da Dona Onça and Hot Pork, are endorsed by the Heart Institute (Incor) of Hospital das Clínicas (HC FMUSP), with measures ranging from simple bottles of alcohol gel on the table (customized and cute) to regular changes of masks for all employees.

Properly equipped employees
Ocupa Rua is a flexibility project created by journalist Alexandra Forbes in partnership with the Rueda couple, Metro Arquitetos and support from São Paulo City Hall with the aim of encouraging the resumption of bars and restaurants in a safe and conscious way. For now, 30 places are part of the project, between Major Sertório, Bento Freitas, and General Jardim and Araújo streets.
