The international chain Rosewood launched at the beginning of April the project that will be built by 2018 and is designed by French architect Jean Nouvel. It is not every day – not every decade, I would say – that one has the honor of following a great work of restoration, conservation and construction of a transformative work such as the Torre Rosewood amidst the Florentine-inspired buildings of the Matarazzo complex, built in 1943, in the Bela Vista neighborhood.
What was once a hospital and maternity ward remained closed for decades, but was cared for by the region’s residents. It was then transformed into a historical heritage site, and little by little it took the shape of Cidade Matarazzo, which, covering 27,000 m², will include, in addition to the palace hotel and a residential tower, some luxury shops and a Creativity Center focused on exhibitions, development of crafts, fashion , music and Brazilian cuisine.

The hotel and residential complex will be a landscape building, which, according to Jean Nouvel, will feed the lush vegetation of the Matarazzo City gardens, being a vertical garden – which increases the feeling of continuity between the Rosewood Tower and its surroundings. Nouvel reinforces: “Matarazzo is an oasis in the midst of chaos and that is what we will maintain and privilege. ”

There will be 151 guest rooms and another 122 residential suites with two restaurants, a bar and caviar lounge, three swimming pools, a SPA and a fitness area.

On the day of the laying of the cornerstone, images were presented of what the project should look like when completed – and São Paulo You only have to win! Jean Nouvel is an architect known for transforming the landscapes where his imposing and audacious designs are installed into postcards. Examples of his creations are the Philharmonic, in Paris; the Torre Agbar, in Barcelona and the Serpentine Pavilion, in London.

Even a time capsule was arranged to be buried 20m deep at the construction site, such is the magnitude of this project for the city. Newspapers of the day, cards with messages for a hyper distant future and even bottles of champagne entered the sealed steel box that will reside for a century beneath the structures of this enterprise that promises to change the concept of Lux known by São Paulo and Brazilians.

From our experience, hotels Rosewood are fantastic, like Las Ventanas, in Los Cabos, Jumby Bay Resort in Antigua and The Carlyle, in NY.
