Texas Sheet Cake

Sweet cakes and pies

I saw this wonder on Lau’s blog, which in turn copied it from Bakerella. I ran to the kitchen! Like all good things, the amount of sugar and butter was punk, so I used less and it was still wonderful!!! Real chocolate cake flavor!!! The nuts that Belinha sent me from Portugal are paying off! Look at the girls covering the cake!

For the Cake:

2 cups of flour
2 cups of sugar (I used 1 and 1/2)
1/4 teaspoon salt
150g of butter
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup of buttermilk that you make by mixing 1 tablespoon of lemon juice (or white vinegar) in a cup of milk and letting it sit for 15 minutes.
2 eggs
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Roof:
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or other nuts)
1/2 cup butter
4 tablespoons cocoa powder
6 tablespoons of milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup of sugar

Pre-heat the oven at 180 °.
Mix the flour, sugar and salt.
In a pan, melt the butter, mix in the cocoa powder and stir well. Add boiling water and let the mixture boil for 30 seconds. Pour into the flour mixture and stir gently until slightly cooled.

Mix the buttermilk and add the beaten eggs, baking soda and vanilla.
Pour into the chocolate mixture, place in a greased and floured pan, bake for approximately 30 minutes.

While the cake bakes, prepare the frosting:
Chop the walnuts. Melt the butter in a pan, mix in the cocoa and turn off. Add the milk, vanilla and sugar and mix well with a whisk. Add the walnuts, mix and pour into the hot cake.
