Savory French Bread Pie (salt bread)

Sweet cakes and pies

Super trick for when you feel hungry and you want something tasty and quick to eat. This pie can be made with whatever “leftovers” are left in your fridge. Put it in the middle and it works, colleague!

I used:

  • 2 stale breads, coarsely chopped;
  • 1 cup leftover roast chicken chips;
  • 1 zucchini with grated skin (I left out the middle part because it was too soft);
  • 1 cup of chopped cheese cubes (I used mozzarella that comes with small pieces of sun-dried tomatoes);
  • 1/2 small chopped onion;
  • 1 small seedless tomato, chopped;
  • Seasonings;
  • 3 eggs;
  • 150ml of milk;
  • 1 generous tablespoon of cream;
  • 1 teaspoon of mustard (I used Dijon).

Follow the photos:

  1. I placed the bread and chicken chips in a refractory greased with olive oil;
  2. I spread the grated zucchini (mine ended up in long threads due to my grater);
  3. I spread the cheese cubes, tomato and chopped onion. On top I sprinkled salt, pepper, or whatever seasonings you want.
  4. I beat the eggs with the milk, cream, mustard and a teaspoon of salt. I poured it over all the ingredients and baked it in a preheated oven at 200º.

It takes about 30 minutes, but it may take more or less time in your oven. When it’s golden on top, it’s ready.

This recipe was inspired by this one –> here (with some modifications, of course) and there is also a sweet version, made with stale bread, which is this one –> here
