Although the color red works very well with black in a tattoo, or even with other different colors, here we are talking about it alone.
Several adjectives can work when we talk about red tattoos, but probably the biggest one is bold!
But not everything is rosy, and you should pay attention to one detail:
Red color can cause reaction
Any tattoo ink has the potential to cause a reaction. Despite this, red and black inks produce the highest reported number of reactions. The pigment in these paints can be related to problems.
The most toxic red pigment, cinnabar (HgS), is a mercury compound. Its use has largely been eliminated. Organic pigments are less likely to cause reactions or interfere with medical diagnostic tests.
However, they degrade over time. Some molecules produced from degradation include carcinogens.
Additionally, red paint contains iron. Iron oxide is a red pigment. Basically, it’s powdered rust. While it may not cause a reaction, it is a rusty red rather than a bright red.
Iron oxide inks (which also include some brown inks) can react to magnets in an MRI.
Despite this, before starting the session, the tattoo artist normally applies a small drop of ink to your skin and waits a few minutes, to ensure that there will be no complications.
