All because it acts directly on the inside of the hair, replacing the natural hair color with the desired color. However, because it contains ammonia, the color lasts longer.
Toner is a semi-permanent color that deposits color pigments in the hair cuticle. It acts like “makeup”, that is, it fades as you wash your hair. They do not have ammonia in their composition. Therefore, the pigments are not able to penetrate the inner part of the hair, which reduces its duration. They also don’t lighten your hair! They are less aggressive and suitable for some chemically treated hair.
How to choose a redhead toner?
I’ll say beforehand that everything will depend on the natural color of your hair. Firstly, the red hair color does not necessarily need to be applied in the salon, as it is a process that can be done easily at home.
First of all, look at the product packaging, as all brands indicate the shade and especially how to apply it. In short, all you need is to choose a red hair color close to the tone of your current hair or a lighter tone, especially respecting its nuance.
How to use?
It is extremely important to emphasize that the toner does not have lightening power. Firstly, before anything else, do a touch test and strand test before application. This is to make sure you won’t have any type of allergy or irritation with the red hair color.
It works like this: apply a little of the mixture to your arm or the back of your neck and wait 35 to 40 minutes to rinse with plenty of water. If, after 24 hours, your skin has no reaction, go ahead! Otherwise, it’s best to avoid.
Secondly, if everything went well in the test, wear gloves and apply moisturizer to your face to avoid staining. If there is a product that stains everything, it is the red hair toner, be careful, as it is easy to stain the skin, objects and even the walls and floor of your home, so be careful when using it.
Thirdly, it’s time to apply, which works as follows: the hair needs to be dry and untangled. It is recommended that you use a brush. Then start applying from the back of the neck in thin sections towards the top of the head.
Leave it on according to the instructions on the label of your red hair dye. But be careful: there is no point leaving it longer than indicated because it will not have a greater effect. Rinse well and apply a moisturizing cream of your choice to restore silkiness to your hair.

The toner contains in its technology etalonamine, an alkaline agent that is milder than that of the dye, it only promotes a small dilation of the cuticles, allowing the oxidant in very low concentrations (6, 9 or 15 volumes) to permeate up to the cortex and ‘ covers the natural pigment, thus revealing the artificial coloring.
