Well, everything seemed perfect, until Anvisa (National Health Surveillance Agency) decided to put water on the boil, or rather, remove the formaldehyde from the mixture…or almost, as it limited the use of formaldehyde to just 0.2%, and then, many salons replaced the substance with other preservatives with

similar.

Acetamide oxide is the most used, it allows you to leave the salon with washed hair. The active ingredient is mixed into a cream to act on the hair. It is this cream that defines the name of the brush – disguising that strong and characteristic smell of formaldehyde or acetamide oxide. Discover some different types of progressive brushing:

Smart brush or zap

Compound: liquid keratin, proteins, minerals, formaldehyde (0.2%) or acetamide oxide.

How it works: formaldehyde or acetamide smoothes the hair and keratin helps seal it, which reduces frizz and recovers split ends. As it doesn’t straighten completely, it leaves a natural fit. The effect diminishes over time. With each application, the hair becomes finer and smoother, but also loses mass. The zap or smart brush can be washed on the same day (while the progressive brush requires a three-day break without washing). It lasts four to six months. Contraindication: curly and wavy hair may not present a good result.

chocolate brush

Compound: liquid keratin, silk protein, cocoa extract, caffeine, fatty acids and sometimes formaldehyde.

How it works: adds shine, softness and reduces volume. The formaldehyde-free version eliminates frizz from the strands, giving a straight effect only to slightly wavy ones. It works more as a hydration and nutrition treatment than as a straightening treatment. The one that contains formaldehyde does the actual straightening. It lasts on average two months.
Hair for which it is recommended: dry hair, with a lot of frizz and volume. Not suitable for very frizzy hair.
Contraindication: it can cause increased oil production on the scalp, causing seborrhea and hair loss.

Moroccan brush

Compound: white clay, Moroccan cocoa oil and formaldehyde.

What it is for: temporarily smoothes and hydrates.

How it works: formaldehyde is responsible for straightening. White clay and cocoa oil from Morocco provide excellent hydration and nutrition. The keratin contained in the formula seals the
cuticles, reducing split ends and giving the treatment greater durability. It lasts three to five months.
Hair for which it is recommended: curly, wavy, dry, brittle and voluminous hair.
Contraindication: sensitized hair must be evaluated by a professional.

Sugar brush, strawberry brush (and others with “flavors”)

Compound: proteins, fruit acid, ethanolamine and keratin.

How it works: it is formaldehyde-free, but straightens and nourishes the hair thanks to the presence of the ethanolamine substance. Facilitates the brushing process. The hair is washed with an anti-residue shampoo and then the product is applied. Threads cannot be washed or tied up for a period of three days. It lasts an average of three months.
Hair for which it is recommended: voluminous and dry.
Contraindication: none.

American brush

Compound: guanidine.

Recommended for curly, frizzy hair with a lot of volume. Recommended for those who want looser, more natural hair, but which does not appear to have been straightened. It lasts an average of six months.
Contraindication: guanidine-based products are contraindicated for people who have already undergone a procedure with ammonia, henna, thioglycolates or sodium hydroxide.
