How to get from Paris to Versailles
The boutique hotel near the Champs Élysees is in the 8éme arrondissement, a neighborhood of culture, luxury and haute cuisine. It is just 100m from the famous avenue, home to luxury shops and great restaurants. In the surroundings, guests can find the brands Chanel, Hermés, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior and the traditional Ladurée, famous for its macarons and chocolates.

The building
The building was built in 1899 as the residence of a Spanish nobleman. In 1930, Émile Wolf transformed it into a luxury hotel with 45 rooms and 11 suites. Everything is very sophisticated and without ostentation. The decoration harmoniously includes pieces from the 19th century, Louis XV and XVI furniture and pieces from Émile Wolf’s personal collection, purchased at auctions. All this very well balanced with contemporary furniture. On the walls are paintings by Boris Pastoukoff, an artist who lived in the hotel in the 1930s and paid his expenses with his works.

Celebrities such as Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Jane Fonda and Greta Garbo have visited there. German singer Marlene Dietrich (1901 – 1992) lived at Lancaster for three years, which made the property even better known.

The rooms
The rooms are comfortable and classically decorated. The large windows allow sunlight to enter and illuminate the room. Guests can choose between a view of Rue de Berri or the property’s charming gardens, with blue and yellow irises. The hotel’s rooms reflect Parisian elegance. The penthouse suites offer a private patio with a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower.

Room 401 is affectionately called “Ange Bleu” (Blue Angel) in honor of the German actress and singer. Officially called the Marlène Dietrich Suite, it is 85m² and accommodates up to three guests. The room is decorated in shades of violet – the artist’s favorite color – and there is also her picture frame and piano.

My suite, number 606, did not have a view of the Tower, but of the gardens, which became even more romantic with the snow.
It had two rooms, with a very comfortable living room and two bathrooms with showers. Just a luxury!
All rooms have valet service wi-fi free toiletries and Clarins brand toiletries. The hotel also offers a sauna and gym. All the delicacy and cozy atmosphere make guests feel at home. A detail that makes all the difference are the flowers placed on the bedroom doors. They are harvested from the hotel’s own garden and represent another friendly way of welcoming those who settle there.
Tips for not missing the train in Europe
Starry Gastronomy
The hotel’s restaurant was recently renovated and reopened in August 2017 under the name Monsieur Restaurant and has a Michelin Star. Each month the menu visits a region of France. The inspiration for the new restaurant came from a hypothetical love story where Marlène Dietrich discovers wonderful French cuisine. Monsieur would be one of her many friends (lovers) who brings her, once a month, various regional specialties from his travels.
Louvre Museum in Paris
Breakfast is also served in the restaurant, in the French style, with wonderful cheeses and breads and attentive service.
At Le Marlène bar, guests can also choose between having breakfast, a light lunch, afternoon tea or a drink facing the patio. It operates from 7am until midnight.
The winter garden and the igloo
During winter, cute “igloos” are installed in the courtyard. A friendly and cozy option for a meal or hot chocolate. I was still lucky to have snowy days at the hotel. Are you saying it wasn’t a real movie set?
