Opened on September 11, 2008, the Pentagon Memorial (Pentagon Memorial) is one of the places that must be visited in Washington DC.

9/11 Memorial at the Pentagon (Pentagon Memorial)

The Pentagon, which is the US Department of Defense, USAis located in Arlingtonin the state of Virginia, very close to the cemetery where the Kennedys are located, and is part of the Washington metropolitan region. Getting there is very easy. Just take the subway and get off at the “Pentagon” station, on the blue line, three stations before Ronald Reagan airport.

As soon as we climb the escalator out of the subway, we come face to face with the Pentagon and also with a very large sign saying that photography is prohibited.

To get to the area where the Memorial is located, you need to walk a little, which is great for observing the building itself and the people around it. I went on a Sunday morning, so there were few people working, but many residents taking advantage of the space to walk and bike.

The only part that can be photographed there is the Memorial. That’s who we’re going to talk about now.

On September 11, 2001, the United States experienced one of the worst moments in its history. We have already talked a little here about the planes that brought down the World Trade Centerem New York, but that day another plane with about 50 passengers crashed into the Pentagon at 9:37 in the morning. Everyone on board died, as well as people working at the Pentagon, a total of 184 victims.Pentagon Memorial (Photo: This World is Ours)

The memorial is outdoors and is right next to the Pentagon. An area of almost 20 thousand square meters with 184 benches, representing each victim, with water and many trees. A place for reflection and memories of those images that marked everyone’s lives.Pentagon Memorial (Photo: This World is Ours)

The benches are arranged in chronological order, with the youngest being a victim born in 1998 (3 years old at the time) and the oldest from 1930 (71 years old at the time). The place brings a feeling of emptiness, just like the one the whole world felt in 2001. It is not uncommon to notice flowers on the benches left by friends, family or just tourists.
