The hotel in Mauritius has five categories of rooms. All with elegant decor but that perfectly combines with the praieiro climate and begin in 60 square meters. Some have views of the lagoon and others to the beach, like the Ocean Room I stayed in. I found the atmosphere cozy and loved the closet and the bathroom.

The room has a king size bed, sofa and coffee table, which end up providing another environment. They are very well placed, with direct views of the balcony, from where we see the coconut trees and the calm of the ocean.
Next to the bed, a desk, with several outlets, conducive to using the laptop for those who need – unfortunately – work during the stay. (The case of this journalist who writes to you.)
The Day I Swise with Sharks
On top of the fridge a marble counter with alcoholic drinks, kettle and coffee maker. Super-welcome to be able to take an espresso right when waking up, before going to coffee.
In the closet, a charming beach bag, which was properly used from the first moment. In the bathroom, a great bathtub and amenities of excellent quality and size.
The pools
The hotel has three stunning pools, always with views. Two of them are practically on the beach. That is, after a good swim in salt waters, you can take another sun and relax in the pool, either on the lounge chairs or in one of the huts with flowing veils. One&Only Le Saint Géran opened a very friendly lounge where guests can both wait for the room to be ready, as well as give a relaxed face to go to the airport. In bad weather days, it can also be an option for the family. The place is very spacious and with contemporary and tasteful decoration. There is a bar available and some dishes throughout the day.

The Asian
The resort’s new Executive Chef, Marc de Passorio, from the restaurant L’Esprit de la Violette in the south of France starring Michelin, has totally reinvented the culinary experience of One&Only Le Saint Géran. Tapasake is Asian and has an open kitchen, contemporary Asian tapas bar. It offers dishes prepared on the Japanese grill Robata, Korean barbecue and oven tandoori, among others. Open only for dinner, the Tapasake is incredibly romantic, on stilts along the edge of a breathtaking lagoon, with views of mountains covered with green sugar cane, an Indian temple and the resplendent Maurine sunset.
The restaurant was not yet fully ready and we tried the Tapasake menu a table mounted on the sand, after having drinks in a tent. Do you know movie stuff? For it was more or less that, with the right to the bonfire and the sea breeze. Of course it was irresistible to wet your feet in the water before going to sleep. And look, I was hot. It was a warm dinner and a welcome experience that guests can order at the hotel.
The of Carnes
The Prime is a typical steakhouse, modern and airy. The restaurant, open only for dinner, offers the best Angus and Wagiu meats, fresh local seafood and seasonal produce such as palms or turmeric, the source of the earth’s saffron. An impressive wine cellar with rare labels from all over the world accompany the dishes. In addition, a wide selection of rum infusions lives up to the history of Mauritius in the distillation of runs. The open kitchen gives an extra charm to the environment and we even forget that it is inside a hotel.
The Bakery
With a contemporary and rustic decoration, handmade furniture, L’Artisan, it is the new bakery and special coffee lounge, ideal for those who want to eat light dishes, such as salads and sandwiches. The cakes and pastries are appetizing and guests do not have to worry about losing breakfast at the beginning of the day, as it will be available there all day. With its perfect setting and cozy atmosphere, L’Artisan becomes a salon of La Terrasse desserts at night.
La Terrasse
The La Terrasse restaurant is outdoors and is extremely nice! Between the beach and the pool, with the sea breeze coming and going, there breakfast and dinner is served. Highlight for the super complete coffee, with several seasons, of those that makes the guest most hungry, not knowing what to eat in front of so many options.
At night, refreshing drinks from the bar come out and live music gives the right tone for those who are on vacation, sometimes with typical African dances.
Le Carré Lounge
The new Le Carré Lounge has large terraces with views of the Indian Ocean. The vibrant, contemporary interior, with locally mined art creates a perfect place for guests to relax, read a book, enjoy a board game or play cards after dinner, while looking after the resort’s events from above. A place to talk to the resort’s Concierge-Chief, Burty Armance, which has been part of the Team for 24 years and which calls Le Carré its new home, will inspire guests with the new and exciting experiences the resort has to offer.
Lunch
La Pointe in Palm Grove, at the end of the peninsula is the perfect place for families to gather every day. It opens daily from 11 a.m. to sunset, and reflects the calm Mauritian atmosphere, with its thatro roof pavilions. Very good to be able to sink our feet in the white sands while we tasted freshly-grid seafood and the fishing of the day. And the best thing: it is allowed to return to sea after eating!
Discovering the Mauritius
Port Louis and the Central Market
For those who can not stand by and need to leave the resort a little, there are several options of tours, whether by car or by boat. One of them is to go to the capital of the country: Port Louis. Arriving there, the most interesting program is to visit the market, open every day from 9 am to 5 pm. There, you sell food, spices, clothes, accessories, a little bit of everything.
At Water Front there are several stores with handicrafts, accessories, and typical African products. Impossible to leave empty-handed. And the good news is that the prices are quite reasonable for Brazilians.
The Hindu Temples
It is also worth visiting the Gran Bassan temple, one of the most popular pilgrimage of the Hindu religion, outside of India. If you are lucky, there may be some ceremony like I have caught, those that we get up chilled, such is energy in the air.
Helicopter, dolphins and cuisine
The brave can also fly over the island by helicopter and nature lovers, swim with dolphins. Guests who like gastronomy have a chance to accompany the chef in shopping and then watch him prepare the lunch with refinement of details.

The One&Only Saint Géran has a boat and a catamaran and offers varied tours, according to the taste of guests.
The Island of Deer
My favorite tour was to the exclusive Is aux Cerfs, with only boat access. Much sought after by golf lovers, it has two restaurants and offers a day pass for those who want to spend the day. For 110 euros you can have lunch, either in the restaurant or on the sand of the beach. On the menu: lobster and wine. Those who venture can spend the night in one of the “bubble bangals” built in the middle of the forest and that provide an intense contact with nature.
On the way, to the island, it is worth stopping to dive to see fish and corals. There is also an impressive waterfall and those who are lucky can catch the monkeys that are jumping from branch to branch by the river.
Sunset Cruise
The most romantic should not miss the tour during the sunset. The look is amazing and the stewardship on board completes the sophisticated and pleasant atmosphere. After all, nothing more charming than seeing the dusk inside a boat, toasting with a glass of champagne, right?
Conclusion
One&Only Saint Géran is a hotel paradise that is closer to Brazil than we think. If you can match a few days in Cape Town – just like I did – I’ve made a perfect and unforgettable trip. I am already dying of longing!
