Notuss: what it is for and how to take it

Notuss is an antitussive indicated for the treatment of dry and irritating cough without phlegm, as it contains dropropizine in its composition, with a cough sedative action, preventing the cough reflex.

Furthermore, this remedy promotes relaxation of the bronchial muscles of the lungs, improving breathing and relieving dry coughs caused by allergies, inflammations, infections or irritation of the airways.

Notuss can be used by children over 2 years of age and adults, being sold in pharmacies or drugstores in the form of a syrup, and must be used with medical advice.

What is it for

Notuss is indicated for the treatment of dry and irritating cough caused by allergies, infections, inflammation or irritation of the respiratory tract.

How to drink

Notuss syrup must be taken orally, and the dose must be measured using the doser provided in the packaging, and include:

1. Notuss children’s syrup 1.5 mg/mL

Notuss children’s syrup 1.5 mg/mL can be used by children over 2 years old, and the dose varies according to the child’s age and includes:

  • Children aged 2 to 3 years: 2.5 mL (¼ dosing syringe) to 5 mL (½ dosing syringe) of Notuss children’s syrup, up to 4 times a day, or as directed by the pediatrician;
  • Children over 3 years old: 10 mL of Notuss children’s syrup, which corresponds to 1 dosing syringe), up to 4 times a day, or as advised by your pediatrician.

The dose for children should be measured using the dosing syringe and should be advised by the pediatrician after evaluating the cause of the cough.

2. Notuss xarope adulto 3,0 mg/mL

Notuss adult syrup 3.0 mg/mL is only indicated for adults or children over 12 years of age, and the normally recommended dose is 10 mL of syrup, which corresponds to 1 measuring cup, up to 4 times a day.

Possible side effects

Notuss is well tolerated by most people, however, it can cause side effects such as nausea, drowsiness, orthostatic hypotension, skin redness or rash cutaneous.

These side effects are more common in people who are allergic to dropropizine or the components of the syrup or who take higher doses than recommended.

Who shouldn’t use

Notuss syrup should not be used by children under 2 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or by people who have severe respiratory failure, asthma or low blood pressure.

This remedy should also not be used in cases of coughing with phlegm or by people who are allergic to any component of the syrup.
