Correct spoons, washing with a soft sponge and low heat are some of the basic precautions to ensure that the Teflon does not come off the non-stick pan.
Non-stick or Teflon pans are the favorites of those who like to cook without food sticking to the bottom. However, these pans are delicate and need certain care and cleaning in the right way to keep their coating preserved.
Some basic care and products to maintain the useful life of Teflon – the pan’s non-stick coating – are necessary, such as a soft sponge and liquid detergent, as well as the right spoons to stir the food.

Non-stick pans became popular because they have a coating that prevents food from sticking to them and, also, you don’t need a lot of oil or fat to cook precisely because of this coating, Teflon.
Still, as it is a coating layer, you need to take some care with this type of pan so that it lasts for a long time without spoiling, as they do not have a defined expiration date. In short, it all depends on your care for her.
Therefore, know that when this type of pan is new, there is also a trick necessary to use it correctly the first time. See below.

So that everything goes smoothly the first time you use the non-stick pan, know that this tip is important. For the first wash, use a sponge (always with the soft side) and detergent or neutral soap. Then, grease the inside of the pan with oil or fat and cook over low heat for a maximum of two minutes.
Then, turn off the heat and let the pan cool. Finally, wash it again with the soft side of the sponge and neutral detergent, then dry. With this, your non-stick pan is now ready to use.
Non-stick pan care
In our busy daily lives, we know that cooking has become an increasingly faster activity. Therefore, many people do not care about the life of their kitchen utensils. However, the non-stick pan needs attention when handling and washing.
What not to do:
- Do not use a steel sponge to wash the non-stick pan;
- Avoid placing the hot utensil directly in cold water; wait for it to cool alone and wash;
- Food burned or stuck to the pan? Leave it to soak in warm water and wait for it to come off well before washing with a soft sponge and soap;
- No abrasive products like chlorine and soaps;
- Do not store a non-stick pan on top of another, as this will scratch the Teflon.

Day to day:
- Wooden, silicone or plastic spoons are a non-stick pan’s best friend, as they do not scratch the Teflon;
- Never use high heat! Always cook over medium or low heat in these favorites, as excessive heat damages the layers of the pan and releases toxins into the food;
- Be careful not to drip fat onto the outside of the pan, as the stains almost never come off completely;
- Wash these pans only with water, neutral soap and the soft side of a sponge.
With these tips, you will see that your non-stick pan will have a much longer life without the bottom scratched and coming off in the food.
