Naked hair is a movement that has been spreading across social media, encouraging women to embrace and value their natural hair.
Creams, sprays, oils, etc. There are several options to finish your curls and leave them super defined and shaped. However, sometimes there are so many products applied to the strands that it is easy to forget the original appearance of the hair. With this in mind, YouTuber Jade Kendle-Godbolt started the movement called naked hair, which has spread across the internet and social media.
First of all, the movement is a form of opposition to the pressure of beauty standards that women with frizzy and curly hair suffer. Curls that are always perfectly modeled and controlled are an unrealistic aesthetic model. Furthermore, this model requires constant use of different products to finish the strands, which in turn mask the real appearance of the hair instead of hydrating it.
The naked hair movement was designed with the aim of encouraging curly women around the world to display their hair in its most natural form. Thus recognizing their original beauty, without feeling pressured to change them.

Above all, naked hair, literally translated into Portuguese as “naked hair”, is a practice that simply suggests washing your hair. Basically, washing and rinsing the hair, without finishing it with products and letting it dry naturally. The aim of this practice is to obtain a completely natural effect and appearance of the hair.
Naked hair began when YouTuber Jade Kendle-Godbolt launched a proposal for freer, more natural hair in everyday life using the hashtag #nakedhair in a post on Instagram. Jade came to the conclusion that she no longer remembered what her hair looked like without the interference of styling products. From then on, she started posting photos on her social media showing the reality of her curls on a daily basis, accompanied by the hashtag #nakedhair.
Primarily, the intention of the posts was to encourage women with frizzy and curly hair to reduce and rethink their use of hair products. In this way, leading them to value their original hair, thus freeing themselves from the aesthetic models imposed on them.
However, the posts resulted in a movement joined by several women, who began posting their natural hair on social media, raising questions about self-esteem and self-acceptance.
Why and how to join this movement

In principle, naked hair is a healthy practice for the hair, which sometimes needs to be natural, without the interference of products, so that we can notice its real needs. However, it is also a good exercise in self-acceptance, being healthy for our self-esteem, regardless of whether your hair is curly, frizzy, straight or wavy. After all, the original appearance and beauty of our hair should be a source of pride.
Finally, naked hair is also a way to free yourself from aesthetic standards involving hair. Unrealistic standards that prohibit the existence of imperfections, frizz, uneven curls, etc. As a result, the idea is created that hair will only be beautiful if perfected with products. Consequently, women feel pressured to include them in their daily routine to feel beautiful and accepted.
Adhering to naked hair can be challenging at first, but it’s worth it. Additionally, it is not necessary to immediately stop using all of your hair products. Gradually reducing them, gradually giving up one at a time, will be a good start to this liberation process for your hair.
