Metronidazole ointment is a medicine with antiparasitic action that helps combat vaginal infections caused by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalisand should be used in accordance with the gynecologist’s instructions.

How to use

Metronidazole ointment should be used according to the doctor’s instructions, and it is normally recommended to use the ointment for 10 to 20 days, once a day, preferably at night, with the help of the disposable applicator.

Thus, to use metronidazole ointment you must:

  • Remove the cap from the ointment tube and attach it to the applicator;
  • Press the base of the tube to fill the applicator with the product;
  • Insert the applicator fully into the vagina and push the applicator plunger until it is completely empty.

To facilitate the introduction of the cream, it is recommended that the woman lies down.

The action of the medicine is not affected by menstruation, however, whenever possible, treatment should be carried out between menstrual cycles, so that it is more comfortable.

Possible side effects

Some of the side effects that may occur during treatment with metronidazole gel are vaginal burning and itching, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, headaches and skin reactions. It is important that the gynecologist is informed about any effect felt, as this will allow adjustments to be made to the treatment.

Who should not use

This medicine is contraindicated for children, men, pregnant or breastfeeding women and people allergic to metronidazole or other components present in the formula.
