I went to visit Merenda da Cidade, the new restaurant by chefs Janaína and Jefferson Rueda in the center of São Paulo! The employee cafeteria Pig House It is now open to the public, and daily, at lunchtime, it offers a complete meal, with salad, main course, dessert and juice for just R$40. Everything prepared with vegetables from Sítio Rueda, organic chicken, homemade pasta made at Bar da Dona Onça and free-range pork from our own farms – the same served at A Casa do Porco. In other words, a democratic tip for quality food, with typical dishes from everyday Brazilian cuisine! New restaurant by chefs Janaína and Jefferson Rueda

Serving quality food at fair prices is what drives the tireless duo of award-winning chefs. And this goes for everyone, from customers to partners and employees. So, it was with this in mind that they opened their employee cafeteria to the public! According to Janaína, eating well in Brazil is expensive, and so that they could maintain this standard for their employees and continue taking care of the social actions they serve, they decided to turn the cafeteria into a new restaurant.

The menu format was inspired by the chef’s experience in public schools in São Paulo, during the Cozinheiros pela Educação project: one dish a day, always accompanied by juice and dessert. Among the dishes on the menu, for example, are Virado à Paulista, steak, stroganoff, bolognese pasta, fish, feijoada and pasta with chicken. I tried the ground beef with rice, beans and pumpkin puree which immediately soothed my stomach!

In addition to the dish of the day, there is also daily local rice (as a vegan option) and pork milanesa sandwiches, roast pork, Real ham and Porco Real mortadella. Meanwhile, at night, the menu changes to the Merenda Lanches version. There are ten sandwich options, including vegetarian and vegan, house-made potato chips and the famous pork pocas.

Monday: Turn to Paulista
Tuesday: Steak Rolê
Wednesday: Stroganoff
Thursday: Homemade pasta with Bolognese sauce
Friday: Fish
Saturday: Feijoada
Sunday: Roasted organic chicken with homemade pasta
Every day: Arroz da Terra (vegan) and sandwiches (pork milanese, roast pork,
Real ham and Real Pork mortadella)
