Luxury hotel in Madrid: Rosewood Villa Magna

News

Villa Magna, an elegant luxury hotel in Madrid, has been completely renovated and now bears the seal of Rosewood, one of the most sophisticated hotel brands in the world. Since the time I lived in Spain, I love Villa Magna, certainly one of the most luxurious in the city. It was built on the ruins of the old Anglada Palace, and the hotel, opened in the 70s, became a meeting point for Madrid’s high society and businessmen, and continues to be frequented by locals to this day. In 2007 it underwent a major renovation, and, in 2021, it was purchased by the Rosewood Hotels&Resorts brand, which renovated the entire property, including bars and restaurants. I had been to it other times, but I finally managed to stay there after it became Rosewood Villa Magna. Therefore, in this post you will find out all the details of my stay at this hotel, which further confirms the city’s vocation as a newly luxury hotel capital from Europe.

Location

In one of the best neighborhoods in Madrid, Salamanca, Villa Magna is walking distance of excellent restaurants. And the best part: it has direct entrance to El Corte Inglés, the main Spanish department store, where you can find everything. Therefore, in addition to shops, there are also numerous restaurants, bars and cafes. Furthermore, the hotel is located between two emblematic streets of the city: Paseo de la Castellana e Serrano Street, which was once considered one of the most beautiful streets in the world. With wide sidewalks and lots of trees, it is home to the best stores in Madrid. It passes through the emblematic Plaza Colón – the stage for celebrations and demonstrations and borders Parque del Retiro, an oasis in the Spanish metropolis.

Rosewood Villa Magna: luxury hotel in Madrid

The lobby at Rosewood Villa Magna is a spacious and elegant lounge, with several sofas and armchairs. The reception is discreet, with beautiful flower arrangements and modern chandeliers. Among the hotel’s original features is a stained glass window from the 1970s that rises to the height of the grand old staircase.

Furthermore, it is integrated with the Flor y Nata coffee, ideal for a coffee during the day, afternoon tea or even light meals. It also has a pleasant outdoor area for cool days.

The rooms

In total there are 101 rooms and 53 suites, ranging from 30 m² to 260 m², with modern and tasteful decor. Details such as designer furniture and carpet chevron add an extra touch of sophistication. I stayed in the spectacular Villa Magna Suite, measuring 65 m², with a large living room with sofa, desk and coffee table and a bar with coffee maker. In the bedroom itself, a comfortable king size bed and the pillow detail with my initials embroidered on it. What love, and what whimsy! Furthermore, I was also welcomed with some really cute treats from the hotel.

The bathroom, all in marble, had a bathtub and separate shower.

The restaurants

The luxury hotel in Madrid has two restaurants, a bar and a café, Flor y Nata, integrated into the lobby. Las Brasas de Castellana, as the name suggests, has coals as its protagonist, with authentic traditional Spanish cuisine. The atmosphere is elegant, with an open kitchen, as well as large windows and a terrace overlooking the gardens. Furthermore, it is also where a rich and complete breakfast is served. On Sundays, there is also brunch with a live jazz band.

AMÓS, open for lunch and dinner, is designed by chef Jesús Sánchez, who pays homage to the ingredients from the lands of northern Spain and the traditions and flavors that inspired this culinary region, bathed by the Cantabrian Sea. On the menu, in addition to the à la carte, there is also the option of a six-course tasting menu for €137.

Meanwhile, the TARDE.O bar has a contemporary and inviting atmosphere to enjoy classic cocktails.

Spa and gym

Naturally, Rosewood Villa Magna has a SPA to match. Sense, a Rosewood SPA, offers different treatments, both facial and body. In addition, there are also hairdressing and makeup services, as well as a gym with high-tech equipment.

The service

We are talking about a luxury hotel in Madrid which bears the seal of one of the most sophisticated hotel brands in the world, Rosewood. Therefore, the service is truly excellent! A situation happened that I found formidable: we had a shirt washed in the hotel’s laundry room, and when it was returned, they informed us that, when ironing, a small part of the collar of the shirt had burned (it was almost imperceptible). They asked us where the clothes were from, and they simply bought another one like it!

In fact, the Rosewood Villa Magna is a complete luxury hotel in Madrid, with comfortable rooms, great gastronomic options and a strategic location!
