Actress Joana Morcazel made a point of commenting on the lack of opportunities for actors with disabilities after her role in a Globo soap opera.

Actress Joana Morcazel, 22, recently reported on the lack of opportunities for actors with disabilities on TV. Joana, who became known as a child for her role in ‘Páginas da Vida’, shined when playing Clarinha, in 2006. The Globo soap opera will even be rerun on the Viva channel from November 22nd.

In ‘Páginas da Vida’, Clarinha, Joana Morcazel’s character, lived rejected by her grandmother, Marta (Lilia Cabral). Thus, Helena (Regina Duarte) adopted the child. Despite having tremendous success at the time, Joana feels that, years later, TV and the artistic class still exclude actors who have disabilities.

In the story, for example, the character Clarinha had a brother, Francisco, played by Gabriel Kaufmann. The actor, unlike Joana, received an invitation to do several other jobs at the network. In addition, he made 7 soap operas, as well as series and films. Gabriel’s last appearance on TV was in ‘Amor de Mãe’, in 2019.

Recently, in an interview with AnaMaria Digital, Joana explained why she didn’t return to soap operas after ‘Páginas da Vida’. Manoel Carlos’ soap opera was his only television work in his entire career. According to the actress, “there were no more TV invitations”. Joana attended high school and graduated in theater. According to her, opportunities need to be given to people with a variety of disabilities, not just Down Syndrome. “This is one of the ways to improve prejudice,” she added.

As a child, Joana was recognized on the streets for her role as Miss Clarinha. However, she currently works on social media and takes advantage of her audience to express her opinion on various topics. In this sense, not long ago, the actress criticized Milton Ribeiro, Minister of Education, when saying that students with disabilities “disturb” other students. Morcazel counters: “As I am a well-known person, I think it is important to speak my opinion on matters of interest to society.”

The actress says she has many good recommendations from the time she spent recording Manoel Carlos’ soap opera. Furthermore, actors such as Jorge de Sá, Fernanda Vasconcellos, Regina Duarte and Thalita Carauta still maintain contact with her. A curious point about Joana’s performance is the way she recorded the plot scenes.

According to Joana, they spent a lot of their time playing and talking, having a good laugh. She went to the recordings every day in the afternoon. Once there, there was no text to memorize. “The actors and actresses asked me questions related to the soap opera, to see how I responded. The scenes were very easy to do.”
