The localization

It was the first time I stayed in the middle of Pillory and I loved it! O historic center of Salvador It’s much cleaner, more organized and safer. There is a police station very close to the hotel, as well as several guards walking around. Of course there are many street vendors, as it is an extremely touristy place, but I liked seeing that they are registered with the city hall. Furthermore, there are a number of beautiful baroque churches close by, and finally, an endless variety of shops, bars and restaurants.

Between the rooms

The view can be of Largo de São Francisco, churches or the green internal courtyards. The rooms at the front are a little noisy, as it is always a place with a lot of people passing by. Furthermore, you can listen to some live music in the bars. Nothing that disturbs your sleep, as they stop playing early, but around 5pm, 6pm, the noise gets a little annoying. Ask for a back room, if applicable.

The decoration

Each room has a different decor. Furthermore, they are named after African regions and states, such as Goa, São Tomé, Príncipe and Angola. Some suites have a four-poster bed, others have a bathtub. While some have high ceilings, others have beautiful old tables. Therefore, there are certainly suites for all tastes, although the common touch to all is rustic charm, antique furniture and lots of wood.

My experience

I stayed in the Goa suite, measuring 35m² and facing Largo de São Francisco. It was very comfortable, with a King Size bed with mosquito net. The room also had two armchairs, a table and a good closet. The bathroom had a reasonable amount of space and the shower was great. The amenities were from the hotel itself in clay containers, very charming.

The environments of Villa Bahia

Like a typical historic mansion, the best hotel in Pelourinho is divided into several very cozy spaces. The lobby has a living room aura, as does the lounge inside, near the pool. There was a breeze there and the atmosphere invited guests to sit down to read a book or perhaps work a little with their laptop, looking at the pool and garden. In fact, the hotel boutique has books on Salvadorbaroque art, tropical vegetation and other topics of informative and cultural interest.

A refuge in Pelourinho

Two beautiful patios complete the interior of Villa Bahia. While one is an extension of the restaurant lounge, where breakfast is served – bucolic and with the pleasant noise of a water fountain – the other is where the small swimming pool is located, covered by abundant vegetation. On the third floor, a terrace with views of some facades and bell towers. A magical look from the famous historic center of Salvador.
